I had a thought, that while we’re constantly asking for segments to be reduced from L5 to enable us to edit, and that now you can unlock down to a certain level.
However, we still need to ask for segments to be returned to a higher lock. Is there any reason why we shouldn’t be able to re-lock to a level higher than ours? e.g. I ask for a L5 segment to be downlocked to L3 so I can edit it. It would make sense that I can relock it to L5 when I’ve finished rather than making a further request to get it re-locked.
Should this be submitted as a feature request for the map editor?
I don’t think it would be a good idea. I can see it being used by lower-level editors to prevent others making edits.
For example, if there is a disagreement about a particular mapping arrangement, one editor sets it the way they think it should be, then bumps the lock level up to 5 to make it difficult for anyone to disagree.
Meaning no disrespect at all to lower level editors like yourself, I think it’s right that an experienced eye should be looking over more important roads and checking everything is OK before “setting it in Level 5 stone”. And even that experience is no guarantee of infallibility.
Speaking as a level 5, I’m always happy to take the time to respond to an unlock request. If I feel that the lock level needs to go back to level 5, then it’s my responsibility to check things over before doing so and I have no problem with taking that time.
Fair enough, was just a thought. I see your point - responsible lower level editors would use it properly, but others might use it as a weapon in an editing war!
Plus, what if you lock it up, then realise you’ve missed something. How embarrassing will that be?
Talking of re-locking - could you re-lock the two blackwall tunnel segments back to L5 now I’ve tweaked the layout?
Cheers.
