Dear AM,
Can the private road shown in this permalink be altered please. There is a restriction on this road to Buses and Cycles only. No other vehicle is allowed on this short section of road.
I live in the area and know that people still try to drive through this bus only section.

Hi, I’m not the area manager but I might be able to help.
The segment is currently set to private road which should prevent routing via it (except if the destination is only reachable via that road). Until recently, this was the only way we could attempt to map bus only lanes. We can now add vehicle type restrictions.
But … at the moment there is no way of setting vehicle type in the client so all clients act as the type “private vehicle” (don’t get confused by the similarity of the terms private vehicle and private road - they are different things). If the “private vehicle” type is prohibited by a restriction then the road will continue to act like a “private road”, ie no routing. So by setting a vehicle type restriction to bus only (there is no cycle option yet) you should see no difference from now.
However … we don’t yet know how the vehicle type restrictions interact with the automated Map Problems and it might be that by setting a vehicle type restriction no map problem will be generated if a Wazer comes through (on whatever vehicle - remember as far as Waze is concerned they are all private vehicles at the moment).
In addition, we might as well make a start on adding vehicle type restrictions for when Waze eventually introduce the ability to select the vehicle type in each client (though why anyone would wish to use Waze in a bus defeats me).
So … I’ve changed that segment to bus only (I’ve assumed in both directions). Note that the restriction dialog box can be confusing. I work on the basis that the default for any restriction is all vehicles prohibited (all selected) so if I want to allow a vehicle I have to deselect it.

+1 in agreement that we should use these new features - and it means we don’t have to artificially mark segments as Private Road when they are not really privately owned.
I’ve been using a “belt-and-braces” approach of adding the restriction to the segment and to the turns. Largely because I think the yellow arrows makes it easier for other editors to see what is going on, and partly because we don’t yet know which is best for the efficiency of the routing engine.

I’d also advocate that every restriction should have a note to explain the situation; e.g. ‘Buses only’.
A few things here. Be careful about private roads - it doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with the ownership of the road but with the right to use it. A privately owned (non-adopted) road may provide access to all users and need not be marked as such. A publicly owned road may be “access only” and so should be marked as private.
There is no need to use both turn and segment restrictions. Use one or the other, usually segment restrictions are appropriate but if the restriction applies only to the turn then use that.

The map was showing an error as, although users were not directed in that direction by the turn restriction, they were still driving to wrong way and this caused an error to appear. At least now, the ‘wrong turn’ error will be resolved.
And, as you say, all users are in private vehicles at the moment and should not be directed along this section in any case (I am assuming that the public transport companies are not using Waze).
I use the restrictions on some roads I have edited so that, when the new version comes, the correct users can go along the restricted routes and not everyone.

Yes. In fact I had a MP in Southampton recently relating to someone going through a bus-only restricted segment - turned out he was a coach driver :roll:
Not needed, but surely preferable.
To me this is similar to an allowed turn going the wrong-way down a one-way street. It doesn’t cause routing errors but this will be flagged up by the WME Validator script as slowing the routing engine.
I’m guessing this is because when routing Waze checks the turn restriction from the segment it’s on first before checking the new segment.
