UR in Cardiff

This UR has been raised. https://www.waze.com/editor/?env=row&lon=-3.17290&lat=51.47500&layers=933&zoom=6
I have answered it but upon closer inspection see that Waze has routed down a Private Road (Mill Ln and Canal St) when there was a shorter (and probably quicker) route on an allowed road.

Anyone got any ideas?

I can answer this one! It’s a problem with the destination point. :ugeek:

There are 2 important things to notice.

  • The purple route does not actually “rejoin” the user’s actual route. It stops short, so there is no proof it went further.
  • Look at where the green line ends. The user went around the block and stopped on the other side of the block from the purple line.
I’m guessing that the user was routing to the block that has a place called “John Lewis” over it. The destination point was closer to the private road - and so the user was routed onto a private road.

If you can identify the user’s final destination, perhaps you can do something with the nav point on the place and/or the Google result that might have been the cause.

You also need to look at the Parking Lot on the west side of that block. It is presumably for John Lewis, but is only accessible via the private segment because the editor who added it has joined it in the wrong place. See here.

Thanks for this.
I’ve corrected the road layout and altered the JL and car park nav points.
How do I do anything about Google Search results?

If you can find the place on Google maps that has the point in the wrong place, then in the left hand pane you should see 3 links: “Directions”, “Search” and “More”. Under “More”, you can report a problem and try moving the pin. Whether Google will take any notice is another matter, but I have had success with this before.

You can also extend the PLR somewhat, so it’s closer to the Google GPS point - that way Waze should chooss it as the segment to navigate to.

It worth doing, but Google responses to these do seem random - I had one that was fixed within 24 hours, most seem to take a week or two before you even get a response, and others are just been ignored!?

You can always have a go on mapmaker, I usually get changes pushed through fairly quickly. I suppose it’s a bit like Waze and depends on how often often an ‘area manager’ type role looks over it.
