Wazeopedia Migration to Discuss: Beta is LIVE!

Hi All and @Fischenicher ,

We appreciate your detailed feedback on the Wazeopedia transition. We understand your concerns and are actively working on fixing bugs and addressing community requests.

We plan to open Wazeopedia to everyone and redirect the old Wazeopedia to Discuss on April 2nd, 2025.

To follow up on a few points you mentioned:

• Discuss Integration: We moved to Discuss to centralize knowledge and communication for all Waze communities.
• Content organization, see few of the options you have
  • Custom Categories: Countries can create unique categories for content organization.
  • Pinning & Banners: Use pinned posts and country banner links for important content.
  • Tags: In addition to categories, using tags can significantly improve content discoverability.
• Display: We’re reviewing display issues for improvement.
• Advanced Search: Use advanced search filters for more accurate results.
• Search Clarity: Search results indicate wiki page/country.

Is there an image repository we can access? For example the ones used for categories (they are only low res screenshots in the form).

I had a look in the External Deck but they are not in there.

You can also fill the form and ask for new categories.

Templates:

As mentioned in this post, articles from Wazeopedia utilizing MediaWiki templates will be migrated to Waze Discuss as text without the templates’ capabilities.

There will be new template functionality available:

• wzTemplates capabilities:
  • A standard Discuss post with existing capabilities (tagging, images, links, embedding), primarily for static content.
  • Can reference another post containing a wzTemplate, enabling nesting.
  • wzTemplates will be available on all Discuss forums.
  • You are welcome to test the templates.

In order to use the new template functionality, given some post you want to use as a template, copy its’ topic id and post number in the post (first post is number 1). When you want to use the template, insert the following bbcode tag into the post:

[wzTemplate topic=<topic_id> post=<post_number>][/wzTemplate]

Templates also support named parameters. In order for a post to use a named parameter in its’ content, wrap it in {{}}. For example:

This is a greeting.

Hello {{first_name}}

Parameters are provided by name, prefixed with p_. For example, in order to use that template:

[wzTemplate topic=123 post=1 p_first_name="Shira"][/wzTemplate]

Will render as

This is a greeting.

Hello Shira.

This is the option for templets in a post

@shirapashu I noticed there are a couple of old https://wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki/ links within the wiki articles on discuss that didn’t get converted over to https://www.waze.com/discuss/. Is it possible to get these automatically converted too?

The migration is done and also the redirect links from the old Wazeoepdia to Wiki Discuss.

Yes, it was the plan and now all the links leads to Wiki Discuss.

@shirapashu any news on making wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki links be changed to the discuss url instead? Atm the link just redirects to the main discuss homepage which doesn’t really help.

Can you share examples of links that should be fixed?

• All links from Wazeopedia now redirect to Discuss Wazeopedia.
• For example: https://www.waze.com/wiki/USA/Road_types → leads to discuss topic
• Deleted articles from Wazeoedia will go to https://www.waze.com/discuss

Hi @shirapashu, Like an example is located on here: Australian Place Style Guide where at the very bottom there’s links that use https://wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki/Global/House_Numbers_in_WME & https://wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki/Australia/Abbreviations_and_Acronyms .

I just realised that Global/House_Numbers_in_WME was deleted and why it redirects to https://www.waze.com/discuss.

What I noticed though is that if the address of the link was waze.com/wiki, it was automatically converted to it’s discuss page url. This hasn’t happened for wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki links, so when that url stops working, these links will be broken unless a editor that has permissions notices it and updates it.

Thanks for sharing those link examples!

Updating the internal links from wazeopedia to Wiki Disucss was done as thoroughly as possible. This means some older links might still need manual correction.

For example:

• The https://wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki/Global/House_Numbers_in_WME page wasn’t migrated, so links to it won’t work.
• The https://wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki/Australia/Abbreviations_and_Acronyms page was migrated successfully, and its new link works.

If you come across any outdated wazeopedia links while editing, please feel free to update them if the target page exists on the new wiki.

We’re looking to adjust redirects so they point to the Discuss Wiki section instead of the main Discuss forum.
