What's wrong with the Petrol Prices feature in the Client?

Bug: I found that when I enter 129.7 at ASDA, it appears as 129.6 in the station info screen, just as .9 gets round down to .8.

Also, the trailing zero wants dropping from the results list.

Interestingly, it appears as .7 on the map screen but .6 elsewhere.

Definitely something wrong with price entry… Tried submitting prices for the same stations that were giving me hassle last week, and got the same error message:

Then tried updating prices at a station further along my drive, and that went through without a hitch, so either it’s a gigantic coincidence that the price submission process just happens to break at the same time I’m passing these particular stations, or there’s something about the way these stations are set up in the database that prevents them from accepting UK formatted price data.

The above screengrab was taken at the Total station on the B466 in Ickenham, and the Shell station a bit further south on the same road also gives me the same error-any other Wazers in that area who could try submitting prices for those stations?

Hi,

It wouldn’t have anything to do with the amount of difference in the price by any chance?
Have you tried submitting a single price to see if that works?

Des. . .

Not for these two stations, no, but it seems to cope OK with similarly large differences at other stations so I don’t think that’s the answer.

Tried entering just a single price this morning, still no go… Checked the station landmarks in WME to see if there’s anything obviously different about them compared to the landmarks for stations which are accepting prices, nada. I’ve been able to submit prices for these brands at other locations, so it’s not a problem with certain brands. Time to drop a line to Waze support, methinks…

Very rearely can I update the petrol prices for the Shell garages on the top of Detling Hill. It’s a 3g blackspot for most networks, so it cannot be updated.

Any reason why these can’t be cached?

Network coverage is an issue for all types of reporting in waze, the only option currently is to wait for network coverage before hitting Send.

Unfortunately, if you don’t have network coverage you can’t initiate the report in the first place :frowning:

If only…

So at least these two stations are accepting prices in some format, just not in the expected UK format.

The other problem is that, even if the phone and every other app running on it has network access, it doesn’t mean the Waze client and server will be able to talk to one another… For an app which relies heavily on its network connection, it’s a bit annoying how readily it will lose that connection when the physical link between phone and carrier network is still fully operational.

Wouldn’t you want the format to be

£x.xxx

Instead of

£xxx.x

So the program doesn’t think you want petrol at 130 pounds and 90 pents.

The last number always being 8 its probably from the petrol brand form. As it uses an example of $x.xx8 on the form.

I guess someone just entered the example in and sent the form in.

If the last digit changes it should have been an x so it can be different at different petrol stations.

No the format in the UK is xxx.x why should the app be any different just to suit developers? It’s hardly difficult to put a p on the end

Thought I’d bump this one up!

Been driving along the “Sussex Expressway” today (really the A272, the local name is somewhat sarcastic), and kept losing telephone signal. That’s fine, but what is not fine is that Waze will not reconnect when the signal comes back. I know the trick of turning “airplane mode” on and off, and sometimes this works eventually, but what a performance! Every other app on my iPhone reconnects quickly and automatically, why can’t Waze?

The reason for complaining on this thread is that as a consequence a couple of petrol stations have gone unpriced. And on another, I sat on the forecourt fiddling for a good five minutes before I could get the price in.

Petrol prices are, or could be, the best feature of Waze; the only thing it offers that the new feature trailed for the next iPhone does not. If stations are going to go unpriced because Waze can’t use a working mobile signal, I shall stop using it when I upgrade my iPhone. If it was just me, I’m sure you’d all happily wave goodbye, but I doubt I shall be alone, and I certainly won’t give much for Waze’s chance of picking up new users once Apple come up with a free App with traffic reports and better maps.

Waze really need to buck their ideas up and sort out quick automatic reconnection to the server.

Hi,

I’ve had this problem in a few places in Nottinghamshire. Right to the point where I restart the phone completely and then Waze will either not find a signal or not pick up a valid GPS.
I installed GPS Test for just this reason. And while there are sometimes patch GPS points here, GPS Test will get a fix.
So why can’t Waze? Without either a GPS signal or a data connection you are pretty much up a gumtree!

But then it is not the only problem Waze has, but that’s for other topics…

Des. . .

I might be able to post my first correct price …

Morrison’s in Lincoln are now selling unleaded for 134.8!

Lol

With regards to the invalid price error message, I’ve been seeing this on (almost?) all of the new stations I’ve tried submitting prices for, and it continues to be a problem for all of the existing stations where I first noted the problem.

One thing that seems to be consistent is that the stations which accept prices are stations that were either added pre-mass-station-data-import, or which have subsequently been edited, whereas the station which aren’t accepting prices are those that don’t appear to have been fine-tuned by anyone following the import. Does this match up with anyone elses observations?

Also, has anyone noticed stations going missing? There’s one near me that was on the map from when the price feature went live in the UK, and which I’ve been able to submit prices for without any problem. Passing by yesterday I went to update the prices only for the app to tell me there were no stations nearby, and it repeated this assertion on several further attempts whilst still within range of the station. Got home, looked at the area in WME, and the station is completely gone…

I have the same issue.

Also, has anyone noticed stations going missing?
[/quote]

Yes, same here. Some have vanished from both the client and WME. Some being 5 local ones to me that I know of.

Correction, not gone, but relocated a couple of hundred metres away from where it actually is, and with its landmark shape reverted to the standard rectangular one of an imported station that hasn’t been touched by a human editor. Which I’m fairly sure wasn’t the case prior to its relocation… Are Waze buggering things up again?
