A new editor version is upon us. Here are the details:
Road ranks - we have improved the way this works according to your feedback. Basically, all roads are defaultly locked to automatic. Automatic is the road ranks algorithm - a busier road will be locked to a higher rank, according to specific country configuration etc. An editor can choose to manually lock the segment on a different rank by setting the lock to that rank’s number.
We do not show u-turn arrows for dead-end roads anymore. We know there are some pending routing issues related to that and we might rollback this change. I am on it and will keep you updated.
We have added the ‘Ferry’ road type - for now there’s no change in the way it will be handled for routing - just the same as ‘minor highway’. We are currently working on an improvement for this - we’ll keep you posted.
The Street View close button is now bigger, on the other side, and can be activated with a keyboard shortcut to (Shift+W by default).
House numbers are now shown for places address preview
Translation updates
Hovering the permalink icon and pressing Ctrl+C/Cmd+C now copies the permalink.
Assign an empty city to new places if no city exists in that location
Bug fix: segments were not selectable if toggling on the Places layer (until panning the map).
Please let us know if you have any issues or feedback.
Happy editing!
Where is some info about automatic locking? To what levels? When? How often?
User reports and map problems… when will they get some updates? Make routes showing a little longer both directions. Some reports often dont show any user drive, only waze suggested route and one green user drive point. General problem often does not show user drive. Automatic errors on route not followed are too uninformative and with short routes.
Is the automatic lock being rolled out gradually? Because I’m seeing it in one of the areas I’m editing (parts of Southern California, for example) and not in others (my main area, Hawaii). And so far, I’m only finding it active on Street segment types (Automatic lock = Rank 1).
I guess the new “No display of dead end u-turns” kicked in last night. I was cleaning up my local area for the last couple of days and getting a lot of practice on editing these small streets.
This morning, I can no longer view the u-turns, but not only that, I am unable to clear the error displayed by the WME Validator. I am getting both the yellow “Dead end u-turn” error as well as the blue “uncomfirmed turn” error.
Is a script going to be run map-wide that will clear these remaining errors since we no longer have the ability to manually edit them?
Edit: Found the answer in another thread. Click the offending node and tap the “Q” key to clear.
This has been discussed many times in the US forums (and apparently, in the Champs forum before that, but that forum is private).
The most recent discussion is here, but you can search for other similar discussions in the US forums:
CAREFUL: That only works if you have Junction Node Fixer or WME Toolbox installed. Otherwise, it is going to send all turns through the junction to restricted. That would be a Very Bad Thing.
Just wonder about the purpose of ferry roads in the current way…
We have (very few) ferries as a substitude for a bridge and other than railroads or runways a (car) ferry is in navigation aspect driveable, because I can have my route going with the inclusion of the ferry. In fact, the question from the clients POV is, if using the ferry or going around to the next bridge is the better option…
In New England (USA) there are some ferry routes that could cut 2-5 hours off a trip, for example from New London to Long Island. I think the goal is to offer these as a route option. Not sure how schedules and rates are going to be determined, but it would be nice for drivers not from the area to be aware that they don’t need to drive alllllllllllllll the way around thru NYC just to make the short trip across the sound. There are also some islands that are only accessible by ferry, so perhaps this could be used in Waze? Will be interesting to see how it is implemented…
Fair comment pumrum, however what are the penalties for routing? A Ferry route is currently classed the same as a Street, so how will Waze route that? Do you specify this as a Toll Road (no doubt they will charge for this ferry service?)
OP says minor highway, but either way I would wait to see what HQ publishes before we actually start connecting ferry segments to the drivable network. I created one short ferry route across the Connecticut river to see what it looks like in the app, but have not yet connected it to the terminals (segments) on either end. I suspect there will be some “avoid ferry” option similar to tolls
