A MUST-included feature in the next update

I think this wonderful Waze app should include location inputs by coordinates that has been implemented in Papago app. This is because, when certain places aren’t possible to be found by Waze search, users can use Foursquare for example. But in my knowledge on Foursquare search, the location isn’t THAT accurate. So, if users key in the coordinates, they are confirmed that they are going to the specific place.

You can do this today. Just enter decimal degrees in the form of lon,lat in the navigate box. Make sure you get the order right since most other things like lat, lon.

Ohh really? Just type in like 5 degree 6.707’N 100 degree 29.147’E like that? :?

Haven’t tried on the client yet, but on the live map you can enter e.g. “6.5E, 50.8N”, taking you to to N50°48’00", E006°30’00".
Just give it a try on the client…

Gordonski

Client? Live Map? You mean? :?

I tried like below but NO JOY.

Try inputing: “101.50805, 3.06893”

Which coordinates is that? Why is it different than I posted above?

Entering coords has always worked in the app. And this has been asked lots of times before so a simple search of the forums would give you answers without having to ask again. I even posted a video to this thread: http://www.waze.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=9392&p=75819&hilit=drive+coordinates#p75819. It’s an older client rev, but AFAIK nothing has changed. Let us know if this doesn’t work any longer. “51.56323,-1.77209” should be somewhere in the UK as an example.

Also, if you know exactly where you are going, you can search or get near the location on the map and then tap-hold on the screen to navigate to that location.

If it looks strange, or I used bad grammar or misspelled anything, it’s my phone’s fault.

That’s the format that works for me. Thought it would work for you. What happens when you input that into the navigation search? It gives me a blank map, but I’m on the North American infrastructure.

The client is the app on your phone. The live map is what you see when clicking on “Live Map” at the very top of this page.

Enter the coordiantes without the ° ’ " characters. Just degrees as decimals. You entered full degrees and minutes as decimals.
CBenson gave the same coordinates as you did, but in the format that Waze understands. Type the longitude (east/west) first, then the latitude (north/south).
You can also leave out the N and E characters. For western longitude use e.g. -90.123 and for southern latitude use e.g. -30.456.

Guys, if I am to convert 5degree6.707’N 100degree29.147,

What would the values for latitude and longitude be? :frowning:

You can convert from the third form on this webpage: http://www.csgnetwork.com/gpscoordconv.html. There are other GPS coordinate converters out there, too.

I get “5.11178,100.48578”

You can quite easily calculate that.
for 5°6.707’ caculate: 5 + (6.707/60) = 5.111783333

(Explanation: 1 minute = 1/60 degree, because 60 minutes = 1 degree. So when you want to convert minutes to degrees you have to divide them by 60.)

You sir, your explanation is truly SUPERB. Simple but most reliable. Thanks!

Those converters out there is not easily understood, to me the least. :?

Mr Alan, thanks for such help and suggestion on the website link. Good day!
