Permanent Alerts (LV3+)

I explained this at the last meetup, but it was duly noted and ignored, so I think putting the alert on that last sign before every toll plaza would be a good stopgap.

What is the utility for the user of being alerted that there is a toll ahead?

  • reduce speed
  • change route (detour or U-turn)
  • prepare for payment
  • any others?

I find it unlikely that any driver would still be at high speed at the point where Waze is alerting about the toll.

As for the other two, a distance between 1 km and 2 km seems reasonable to me.

I remember that…

About positioning the alert in a different location, won’t that cause even more confusion? The user will see “toll in so many meters”… the meter counter will keep counting down and the toll won’t appear, until the alert disappears and the person just keeps driving…

The idea is for the behavior to be based on a logic of time and distance to the alert point, rather than a fixed distance, but it is important to remember that Insight is still in Beta, so it is ideal that this topic be discussed in the specific forum!

In the case of toll alerts, the ideal is for the point to be kept at the actual location where the related object exists, i.e., where the event effectively occurs. Adjusting the positioning to before the toll plaza or to warning signs could create inconsistency in signaling and deviate from the original purpose of the alert.

As for these options, the app handles them well through navigation settings if you want to avoid tolls, or even see the prices when calculating the route before starting the journey.

But what is the purpose of the alert? Why does Waze alert the user about the existence of a toll?

I’ve always found the toll alert useless when it’s already right on top of it. Sometimes it even gets in the way when there’s a speed camera in the electronic toll lane.
It would be nice for the community to reach a consensus on the best use for this alert.

But as Davi said, it’s in beta and things might change in the future.

The simplest answer is as stated in the Wazeopedia:

Right. Given that Waze currently only alerts for tolls when the plaza already occupies a large part of the driver’s view through the windshield — when it’s impossible for them not to have already seen the structure — I reiterate my suggestion that the alert be given between 1 km and 2 km before the permanent alert location. Furthermore, in light of the explanation on Wazeopedia, I’m already thinking we should discuss whether an alert should be triggered when the toll is a “free-flow” type.

To ensure your suggestion is properly reviewed by Waze, remember to submit your request in the Suggestion Box and share it with the community so they can vote and leave their feedback there as well!

I’ve already posted it there, I’m going to share it more:

@Augusto_NH @EsdrasFarao if you guys only knew how much the highway operators loved this toll alert… It seems like something silly and pointless, but the alert is very functional. Maybe the distance deserves an analysis, but based on those who are impacted by it, the alert has been working well. They have even reached the point of flagging locations where the alert wasn’t showing up yet.

The permanent alert layers have deactivated for me again, except for speed cameras and speed bumps!

Hello, @marxmr!
The other Permanent Alerts are Lvl4+.
Best regards.

Lane merging and dangerous curves are for level 3.

They were Lvl3+… after the “update” they became Lvl4+!
No word on them returning to Lvl3.

:grimacing:

Hello, is there a way for a user below level 3 to suggest map edits in Brazil? I drive the Brasília-Marabá route whenever I go to Brazil, and in the North-Northeast there are many speed bumps without any signage—neither warning signs nor paint on the bumps—and they are also very high.
In the US, WME lets lower-level users add a permanent hazard and write a message, and then someone from the community with a higher level adds the hazard to the map.

I tried to do this on the Brazil map, but apparently Waze forgot that I passed through there and won’t let me edit/suggest changes.

Good morning, @DrDriveMeow9
Welcome to Discuss!
It is not yet possible to suggest Permanent Hazards, but you can leave Map Comments where the respective speed bumps are located and then share the permalink in the State forums so that a Lvl3+ editor can add them.
Thanks and best regards.

Good afternoon everyone.

In this segment indicated by the user, my padawan, he mentioned that the intersection is dangerous and asked if it would be possible to add “dangerous intersection” — that is, a Difficult Intersection.

In this case, should I add the alert or not?

Many accidents happen there.

Hi, @parussolodracena!

The best approach is to answer these questions internally and decide if the alert applies to the location. The editor who passes through the location will always know more; therefore, they are the best person to decide after analyzing the points above. Best regards.
