My immediate neighbourhood is Blackley Village, which is on the SW edge of the much larger area of Blackley in N.Manchester. I’ve been trying unsuccessfully to label the Village area, and to add the word Village to the address for my own house.
Blackley Village is identified on Google Maps, although it appears there as a housing development rather than a neighbourhood.
I don’t know how to proceed.
Thanks for the post and the info provided. To help me assess how best to proceed, can you give me a road that is a part of Blackley Village? This will allow me to then research the address, as correctly written on the Royal Mail address database.
Of note though, is that I cannot find Blackley Village on the Gazetteer of British Place Names. Is this definitely a recognised and signed village, or is it more of a locally referred to suburb, where the actual address is just Blackley?
Royal Mail doesn’t use the Blackley Village name, but it does have local authority placename signs at lat/long 53.5226773, -2.2259478 Mill Brow
and
53.5227620, -2.2172826 Old Market St

Estate agents, in particular, do use the Blackley Village name, and it’s on various YouTube vids of local history pics etc.
