A few days ago I made quite a few edits to the local area as there were missing roads and other errors due to local developments. The updates aren’t appearing and I’m not able to make corrections to misplaced speed cameras etc until I get higher.
How long does it take? Does it require another editor in my area to approve as I don’t think there is many.
You can check the update status here: https://status.waze.com/
You can see that the INTL server, where you are, has been updated with edits as of Oct. 5. If your edits were made after that time, they will not have appeared yet. Speed cameras are another matter, you likely will need a higher level editor to help with those.
Hi there, only newly mapped or changes to Places require approval from higher ranked editors. Any changes to road segments do not require approval, instead they are pushed to the App when the map tiles get updated. This should be a daily process but can be delayed to to server load and other reasons. As stated you can track how up-to-date the App map is by looking at the status page. Do note that changes do not always show in the LiveMap even when they are live.
To protect the map from accidental or malicious damage the busiest 2.5% of roads are automatically locked. This also applies manually to Places. Cameras on the other hand are a quirky thing in that they are locked to the level of the last editor to touch them. All of these things can be downlocked to your level if you make a post in the UK Editor Request Forum with link and reasons for the edit.
You will find it beneficial if you take a look at the Wazeopedia and Quick Start Guide. Having a browse of your edits so far you should be aware that mapping in Waze is not like other systems, a core aim of Waze is simplicity. For instance we do not map every lane in a car park as we only want Waze to navigate users to the car park and away from it. We do not want Waze shouting instructions at users are they are trying to find a space or avoiding other cars making manouveurs. All of the extra lanes you’ve added at this Tesco should be deleted, your’s are the red edged segments that you haven’t named.
You’ve made some good edits on Lower Road but a few details need improving. We do not enable the U-turn arrows in the UK as the majority of UK roads require a 3-point turn so we’d prefer Waze to offer a full route to change directs. All roads should be named or you can tick a box for unnamed in the address fields of a segment. We also use abbreviations for road names due to the limited space in the App.
You can find plenty of information on both Wazeopedia and in these Forums. You will also find a wealth of knowledge in the experienced editors who are all happy to answer any and all question you may have.
Many thanks for your help. I have made the relevant changes now. There is a separate car park at Tesco which is council owned so I have left that one there.
How can I report issues with speed cameras? I couldn’t find an option in the editor to report issues I don’t have control over, and I couldn’t find a way within the app unless I were at the location itself.
You can select any item; segment, place, camera, and create a Permalink from the WME. This can then be added to a forum post which will take other editors directly to the location.
You can also use the LiveMap and left click on a location and “Report a problem”, this will create an Update Request like those from the App. However, I believe there is a bug at the moment that is not parsing the text from the description field, so I’d recommend Permalinks directly from the WME.
