L3 Increase / L3 > L1

Hi
I’m not sure if you boost someones level to make a edit, or change a roads lock level temporarily?
The A10 between Turnford and Hoddesdon. Has just last week got Average speed cameras on it. I would like to edit this section to put the cameras in and put the Average speed check on it.

Thank very much

We temporarily drop the lock level of the road, which I have done. Please let me know when you’re done, so that I can restore the auto-lock level. Another post here would be easiest.

Since this is your first post, welcome to Waze editing and the forums. Have you seen the Quickstart guide to editing? Far too much to absorb in one go, I know!

The speed cameras bit doesn’t seem to have been updated since WME (the editor) was changed for average speed cameras. You still need to add the camera icons as described, but also check the “average speed camera” box for the road segment.

At present, there seem to be an awful lot of brown cameras along the road. These mark locations that have been reported using the app, but they won’t appear in the app until they are confirmed by an editor (whereupon they will turn grey). I suspect you need to confirm just a few and delete the rest. I don’t know whether this power is granted to an L1 editor, if not please post again saying which need to be confirmed and which deleted.

Happy editing,
Ian

Hi ditchi56
Thanks very much for sorting that for me.
I’ve edited the road now, thanks very much for that.
I have been able to delete the cameras I don’t think were needed. I think the only way to tell will be when I drive home tonight. I was able to delete the camera as I said, but I can’t be sure if that is because the road was unlocked to level 1. We will see.
Interestingly I flagged x3 map errors on the A10 yesterday, so I could pin point the location of the cameras. They didn’t appear to be on the map today. But all my drives are recording properly. Very strange. I guess something for another time.

Cheers also for the guide, I actually had a lot of help yesterday on the Map editor live chat, hence my post here in the end!
Thanks again Ian

Kind regards,
Ryan

Road lock restored.

The cameras are, so far as WME (Waze Map Editor) is concerned, a separate object from the road segments. So the lock level of the road doesn’t affect your ability to change cameras.

However, the “average speed camera” check-box is a property of the road, so affected by the road lock level. It’s only recently appeared, and the app doesn’t use it yet. We think that there will soon be some special detail appearing on the app while you are in an average speed soon.

Back to the actual cameras, and they too have locks. But you can’t specify the lock level, instead they get locked at the level the last editor locking them. :o This is one reason why I am reluctant to touch them, as they then get locked at L6. :frowning:

Ian

Ah fair enough!
Sweet, I can revisit them later in that case.

I did notice when I made the changed, my number of edits remained on 12. I did think it would move slightly with the road edit and the cameras. Is there sometime it takes for the edit to appear in my account? Or will these sort of changes, not the ones required to level up.

Cheers

Your edit count should certainly increment if you alter the properties of a road segment (or create a new one). Some things don’t increment edit counts, inputting of a closure being one I know. I wouldn’t be surprised if Waze forgot to put in any code for incrementing edits when they added the camera processing.
It may be that edit points take a while to appear, I know drive points do.

Sorry I’m not being very definite here, I have all the points I need and long ago lost interest in tracking them. If you Google “waze edit points” or similar I’m sure you’ll get a definite answer eventually.

Nothing seemed to change. :frowning:

No worries about the points. I guess they are not required.
What I did notice on my drive home, is none of the Cameras are on Waze?! But they still are on the Map editor?
I’m not sure how I “publish” it to peoples maps? If that’s required?
Sorry to keep going on and on man :frowning:

They needed to be “grey” rather than “brown” on the editor, which they are. However, they seem to have a last update date of today.

I’m not sure whether cameras update (nearly) instantly, like closures and places, or whether they need a “tile update” like road segments. You can tell when road segments have been updated by looking for “INTL map tiles” on the status page. Unless someone knows differently about camera timescales, I’d not worry about them not appearing until there’s been a tile update covering whatever date/time you made them live at.

I notice that some of the cameras have the speed correctly set to 70mph, but one is still set to 0mph. I think that both should display on the app, but the audible warning will only appear for those with a speed set, and then only if you are travelling at or over the set speed.

Who could that have been… :sunglasses:

Cameras update with tile updates as far as I know, when I last deleted a bunch they remained until a map update. Also I believe a camera set at 0mph will always give an audible warning like a Red Light Camera.

Haha thanks for that Atro
I see from Ian’s link the map seems to get updated every 4 -5 days or something like that.

Cheers for clearing up the 0mph audible warning also Atro!

the INTL map finally updated the other day. It should of included the cameras, but they are not on there still? I haven’t touched them since the 28th or so, and the update claimed to do everything until the 29th. Has it all gone horribly wrong?

They appear in the app for me, Waze should only verbally warn you if you are above the set speed of the cameras. Though it should always give you the notification bar at the top of the screen.

They were not there earlier I swear it xD However I have just driven down the A10 and can confirm it’s working.
My bad again! Cheers again for all your help
