Have been looking through the editing manual, but can not work out how to do this. I am a level 2 editor.
I am trying to work out how to temporarily close a road, not a turn or time restriction. Which means I am trying to close a whole road, meaning multiple segments. I have read through wiki editing information, but either I come across dead links, or no information at all. Perhaps level 2’s can not do this.
Assistance would be appreciated. There are a couple of temporary road closures I would like to add, but not sure how to do this.
I would use time based restrictions, rather than turn restrictions, so that they expire when the closure finishes. Rather than being permanent.
I can understand why this feature is ‘dangerous’ and that is because, unlike a lot of changes to the waze map, real time closures are made to map immediately, rather than having to wait for the next tile update, which is usually 12 to 24 hours away. So with having to wait 12 hours or so, any errors can be quickly picked up and changed, with no effect to drivers.
But time based restrictions for quite a few segments are time consuming, when using the real time closure method is faster and is supposed to be the correct method for dealing with road closures. Also I know how to do time based restrictions, so that teaches me nothing new, it is real time closure method that I need to learn to learn something new and progress my knowledge. The more I learn, the less the other editors have to do.
Yeah I must say the lack of higher level active editors is an issue. Fortunately, we aren’t quite as thin on the ground as you ( but close :-(. ) Thread drift I know but it is surely an issue for waze’s business model if all the editors just quit…?
Australia and NZ were applied as Level 4. Weather or not this was approved, I don’t know. I don’t have access to the spreadsheet and behind the scenes on that. This was the general direction of what Waze staff want. The feature is indeed dangerous in the wrong hands (like some GC restricted features).
Regarding Lvl2 for New Zealand, Waze HQ would never have permitted that level to be set, so I didn’t suggest that level (not the cause of being over ridden, but being sensible on the reply).
The question was originally put to the GC’s of the community, I chose to discuss it with the relevant CM’s of each country. At least you knew what was going to be happening.
To be honest, I lost a bit of interest in this whole thread after seeing that this seemed to be the only way to do this. It means I have to keep asking others to do things and this is a slow and cumbersome way to get things done. The amount of things I would be asking for would be exhausting if I had to do it this way.
It means that I notice that a road needs to be closed for roadworks (for instance) at say 5pm on Friday night and instead of just getting it done myself and learning, or doing the work myself and then having it approved before it becomes official if the editor is under a certain rank, I need to wait for a higher level editor to close the road themselves. Which based on past experiences could mean that action is taken after the roadworks have finished.
This is what occurred with this question. I noticed two sets of roadworks on Friday night and wanted to close two sets of roads, but could not work out how. They went unclosed.
So I basically just gave up. I have sent an email to Waze HQ asking for a level upgrade a few days ago, for still no reply.
If I can get upgraded to level 3 here in Brisbane, then my ability to start earning editing points, making changes and helping out increases enormously.
There are so many minor roads that are locked to level 3, quite often for no real apparent reason. And all I am attempting to do is change a green arrow to a red arrow. But to do that, I need to ask a level 3 editor to unlock an intersection, which sometimes takes two days to get done.
As a guide, what is a reasonable response time before chasing the matter up again if they have not replied at all?
