I live in the gated community of Canyon Gate in Tomball TX (just north of Houston). There is a front gate off Canyon Gate Point Dr. (comes directly from 249 on the southbound access road) with has a entrance controlled by a registered tag for residents and an guard (person) to let in non-residents. There is also a back gate that can only be accessed by the registered tag. This gate is on Eldridge Dr, one block north of Northpoint. About 2 years ago, the traffic pattern changed because this section of 249 is now a limited access tollway. This change has led to the back gate being used by residents nearly twice as often as the front gate. Unfortunately, any Wazers who are not residents are sent to this back gate and there is no way for them to get in. Can this access be blocked so Waze sends people to the front gate and not the back gate?

That’s the section I’m referencing. Your solution is the best one. In a perfect world, the Waze app would be able to tell who’s a resident and who isn’t…perhaps someday that option will be available. In the meantime, it would make the most sense to prevent Waze from routing anyone INTO the neighborhood via this gate. I can’t speak for everyone, but I know how to get home when I’m within a couple of miles so this shouldn’t be a problem for residents. In fact, I’d be willing to write a couple of paragraphs in our monthly newsletter explaining this change for Waze users. As for OUTGOING traffic, Waze can continue to allow anyone to be routed OUT of the gate. You don’t need the tag to get out…it just opens when you get close to the gate. Does that help you out?
