[L4 Closures] 2021 MBNA Chester Marathon / Metric Marathon [3-Oct-2021]

Sunday 3rd October sees the return of the MBNA Chester Marathon and Metric Marathon, requiring a number of road closures in and around the city centre before heading across the border into Wales.

I’ve created a draft MTE and post in the MTE forum, but will need a L4+ editor to do all the hard work.

The MTE post has all the event information, closure details, maps, council TRO, etc, but I didn’t want to risk it being overlooked by everyone assuming that I’d already entered all the closures.

MTE forum post

Many thanks!

All done. Thanks.

Many many thanks Keith for tackling all of those, I know there’s a lot of work there.

can I just add a few extra from the TRO? Not as horrific as it looks(!)
some just add missed segments for closures already set (istr it’s easier for you to extend/apply a closure if one segment is already closed?)
some are totally new closures; the odd one a correction

I was mainly concentrating on the city centre as that’ll affect many more people and many non-locals.

Prohibit westbound traffic 07:30 - 10:45

see also later rule that blocks all traffic for short periods

maybe best implemented by blocking all traffic at the top segments of B5130, to prevent anyone being directed to drive down there (or sneaking in via The Mount)

ie prohibit all traffic 08:00 - 16:00

prohibit all traffic 08:30 - 11:00
Permalink Northgate Street – whole length (Upper Northgate Street to Eastgate Street)
Permalink Water Tower Street – Canning Street to Northgate Street
Permalink Eastgate Street – whole length (Foregate Street to Northgate Street)
Permalink White Friars – Bridge Street to the access to Bank House
Permalink Queens Park Road – Queens Park View to Handbridge

TRO fails to mention, but this Grosvenor St closure is surely only closed eastbound, because Pepper St remains open to westbound traffic (except 9:05-9:25, see later) while Lower Bridge St is closed until 11
prohibit only eastbound traffic 08:30 - 11:00
Permalink Grosvenor Street – Cuppin Street to Pepper Street

ie prohibit southbound traffic on Love Street 08:00 - 10:30

There are two separate races running on Sunday, with 9:00 and 10:15 start times, hence the two separate closures here

Current waze closure entered from 08:55 straight through until 10:40, I’m not sure if this is a waze limitation or a simplification.
In case you wanted to allow normal traffic flow up Sealand Rd for the 40 minute interval between races, the closure would be:

prohibit all traffic
08:55 - 09:30 and
10:10 - 10:40
Permalink
(note westbound traffic prohibited continuously from 07:30 until 10:45, see first point)

prohibit all traffic 08:30 - 16:30
Permalink

note despite the closed slip road, Grosvenor Park Rd will retain its right lane open for traffic, I assume taking the normally forbidden first exit from the roundabout. Waze I expect will route drivers the full 360 degrees right round the roundabout – not sure if this is acceptable or not, versus your ability to temporarily allow that forbidden exit?
or: just don’t close the sliproad at all, waze directions will be pretty much correct, certainly look/sound less stupid than the loop-the-loop
(I realise you may already have worked this out hence not closing it!)

*** current closure looks like 08:30 - 11:00

should be
prohibit all traffic 09:05 - 09:25

prohibit all traffic 09:00 - 14:00

prohibit all traffic 10:20 - 10:40

that little lot aside(!) I think the closures heading out of town seem good, plus those will impact fewer more knowledgeable locals vs the city centre closures.

thanks again for all your hard work on this, I’m sure many will appreciate being routed well away from all those road closures.
but not me – I intend to head straight down every one of those closed roads, along with 3,500 other slightly mad folk (aka runners). gulp.
