https://www.waze.com/en-GB/editor/?env=row&lon=-1.68247&lat=53.59690&s=125828503&zoom=6

Added car park as per instuctions: https://www.waze.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=55&t=204049

Need approval as I am a new editor level(1).

also - I made some other edits to nearby car parks which I realize now after re-reading guidelines are incomplete - https://www.waze.com/en-GB/editor/?env=row&lon=-1.65526&lat=53.59122&s=125828503&zoom=8&venues=234816024.-1946544913.10212895 - and another https://www.waze.com/en-GB/editor/?env=row&lon=-1.65136&lat=53.59152&s=125828503&zoom=7&venues=234816024.-1946479377.10212894

I can’t see anyway to re-edit my change without starting again - both changes are correct as far as they go - just missing off parking roads and navigation point locations…) Can these be approved, and then I can go back and add the appropriate changes?

Appreciate advice re requesting approval as well - should each approval request be a separate request - or should I bundle similar requests in an area in a single post?

Hi Dan, welcome.

I’ve approved those for you, cheers.

Can you add/update the address as you go too? at the bottom of the place details bar on the left. The address is what waze users see in the app along with the name, in the search results listings.

One forum thread for each area would be perfect. After a few, 10 I think?, you can do them without needing approval.

Thanks

Thanks

I’ve made some further edits requiring approval to these places:

Pennine Garden Centre & Car Park (added addresses)

https://www.waze.com/en-GB/editor/?env=row&lon=-1.68362&lat=53.59654&s=125828503&zoom=6&venues=234816024.-1946675984.13362894

The Triangle Car Park - Address and access point:

Council Offices Car Park (Name / Address etc):
https://www.waze.com/en-GB/editor/?env=row&lon=-1.65147&lat=53.59124&s=125828503&zoom=7

Skelmanthorpe Co-Operative Supermarket & Pharmacy, Commercial Road, Skelmanthorpe:
https://www.waze.com/en-GB/editor/?env=row&lon=-1.65073&lat=53.59135&s=125828503&zoom=7&venues=234816024.-1946479377.712508

Please note there are 2 changes pending approval ther - the first from world_6tz11t1k(1) should not be approved… 2nd from me should (IMHO!)

I’ve also tried to add a new location (same view, building directly south of that one) for “Skelmanthorpe Family Doctors” - but when I attempted to save, I was told that I did not have the required permissions…

I can understand that changes would require approval… but to not be given any option… are you able to clarify why that is?

Cheers

For the Triangle Car Parks I’ve made a few changes that act as a good example of a few things

  • for car parks, especially those very close to another/main road, it’s a good idea to push the parking lot roads right to the edge so we’re kind of enclosing all the cars. This is so waze knows for sure when someone is in the car park rather than on the nearby main road. If waze is unsure and snaps them to the main road instead then they’ll get prompted to make a traffic jam report ('cause they’re slow/stationary on the road) and they may get incorrect directions straight onto the main road rather than via the carpark exit road on the opposite side.

  • If a road has no name (generally all carpark roads should have no name) then unfortunately you have to explicitly tell waze this - you can see I’ve ticked the ‘none’ tick boxes on this one https://www.waze.com/editor/?env=row&lon=-1.65531&lat=53.59125&s=88077719&zoom=8&segments=338067220

you’ll find these ‘none’ tick boxes in the sidebar, top-left. That also stops the road appearing bright-red in the editor.

I’ve added “Pharmacy” as a secondary category for this so it comes up when searching for that category.

Give it another go now. Places in WME are often (always) glitchy

Thanks - that makes a lot of sense with the parking roads locations.

I’ve updated the other parking roads I added so they all are marked no name.

I re-added the Doctors - require’s approval: https://www.waze.com/editor/?env=row&lon=-1.65049&lat=53.59071&s=88079767&zoom=8&venues=234816024.-1946479377.13392121

The reason it would not save before, was that I’d used the option to link to google maps location - when I took this off it allowed me to save.

With respect to Skelmanthorpe Co-Operative Supermarket & Pharmacy - just had a thought about that…

Although they are in the same building, and indeed they were both coop owned / run up until a couple of years ago, the store and the pharmacy are now separate businesses, with separate names, separate access, different opening times, and separate contact details - Would I be better to split this up into 2 places?

With respect to the carparks, the parking area for the coop and for the surgery are separate - however they both have the same access, neither have any restrictions, and generally speaking people park in either parking area for both… so is it better to just include all the public parking as a single location, or separate it into 2 locations?

Also… with respect to parking areas associated with a shop or shops, how much detail should be put on the car park… and how much just on the business location itself?

And finally… for now… what should be put into multi-use building with respect to contact details and opening hours? I get you can put multiple tags for business type, and alternate names - but there’s only one field AFAIK for phone and opening hours… (for instance, building north of Council Offices Car Park and west of the co-op is the council office building, also housing (and with prominent sign-ing) for the community library… with distinct opening times and contact details…)

Thanks for all the feedback and advice - I’m trying to get all the info I can from the Wiki etc. - but it’s definitely easier to understand with specific examples (+ there’s a reasonable amount of conflicting and superseded info on some of the linked topics to wade through!)

  • co-op/pharmacy. yeah, two different places. one could be a point place if it looks cluttered with two area places

  • if the co-op/surgery carpark is truly a free-for-all (It would seem to be, judging by the road sign I can see outside) then perhaps just name it “Commercial Road Car Park”

  • carpark and other place markers in the map editor ask for quite different info, so you should be able to distinguish between the two. generally I just name the car park as “<business name> car park”.

  • multi-use buildings are a good one. If the building as a whole has a name (like a retail park or similar) then add an area place for that, and then add individual point-places for each business inside it, placed at their front entrances. For their addresses, put the name of the retail park as the street name. For the retail park, put the road name as normal.

For the doctors surgery and co-op you’ll see I’ve moved the destination point onto the entrance road. less ambiguous than the front door which may be nearer to another unrelated road. For the co-op it means people will be directed off the main road into the carpark, rather than left beside the entrance on the main road.

Generally a good idea to direct people to the first part of an entrance road to a place. gets them off the main road into the road where they need to be, but also not too far into that nested road that it looks like we’re also trying to direct them to a specific parking space. i.e. Direct them to the right turning off the main road, but let them find their own parking space.

Ok, I’ve added the carparks in that area: https://www.waze.com/editor/?env=row&lon=-1.65063&lat=53.59104&s=88079767&zoom=8&venues=234816024.-1946479377.13392121

4 in total, requiring approval.

I think that makes most sense - although the surgery carpark is open to all (hence marked public) - it’s primary purpose is for the surgery - and generally it fills up first being much smaller (are for lower carpark to be full and there be spaces in the surgery car park) - it’s also feels separate from the lower car park - as it’s on a higher level and you have to walk back down the access road to get to the other car park on foot.

I’ve also based on what you said about the destination point locations, moved the destination point for the surgery below the entrance to the surgery car park - as normally the only vehicles which should be passing the car park are staff and ambulances… visitors to the surgery would normally be tuning in to the car park, so moving it below the car park should hopefully mean they get directed to the point where they can decide where to leave their vehicle… if I’ve understood it correctly?

(I realise reading that I’ve put below… main road to the North is at a lower level than the surgery… which probably is not obvious looking at the map…)

Also, when there is just a single row of spaces such as both the Dr’s / staff car parks, should it just be the spaces which are in the parking area as I’ve put… or should it also include the access road?
