Hi,
Due to new cameras being installed at M20 J6. What’s the best way of identifying the correct cameras and closing off the incorrect ones? My thought is to delete all of them and let a local user, who’s agreed to help, add them in the correct locations via the app. What do others think?
Regards,
Ian
Sounds like the best course of action to me. Letting Waze users add or mark them as not there is a flaky way to do it, at least you’ll know who added them so you can verify it as being the right place, then set the speed and direction proper like!

The way I’ve done it is to post a map issue at the location of the real cameras, then use the resultant URs in WME to indicate which of the cameras in WME need to be retained (and aligned, speed set, approved etc.) and which get the royal heave-ho. The problem with deleting all of the existing cameras, then going out to drive the area and mark all of the real cameras using the new camera option in the app, is that by the time you get back in front of WME there’s a good chance (especially on busy roads like motorways) that a bunch of other users have also submitted their own new camera reports, or that another editor has gone on a mass cull of unapproved cameras and deleted the ones you’ve just generated…
As we don’t yet have the ability to create cameras within the editor, it’s also a good idea for now to wait for the map issue to post and then ASAP mark a new camera in the app - although this will then appear in WME at the wrong position, the intention here is that you’d use the UR position to accurately define the camera position and, if there isn’t already another camera nearby that you could edit, you’d then have the camera you’d dropped a bit further up the road as a backup. Might require a few drag/save/refresh cycles to get it moved to where it needs to be, but at least you’ll know it’s in the right place once you get it there.
And now the advertising spiel
Once the cameras are defined correctly in WME, whoever has decided to look after them may then want to use the watchlist functionality within URO+ to keep an eye on them…
