Moving and Consolidating USA Subpages

As most everyone is aware, before we moved to Wazopedia and a separate USA namespace, we had many pages that were USA specific posted as subpages of global pages. During the transition we mostly cleaned up the global and USA subpages, but there are a few that are still out there that need consolidation back to a single page.

I want to use this thread to identify and track these pages as we locate them. Most should be easy to locate as the USA subpage is easy to see, but I have seen a few pages that were just renamed and they include content that refers to global vs USA specific guidelines. We should review those and determine if we still need to additional language for the USA specific pages.

The global pages already identified have the [[Category:Request for global merge]] on the page, but I have also included the ones I found in that list in my related pages below for easier tracking. Once we complete the list below, we will recheck the category to be sure no other pages have been added.

We don’t have a USA subpage template yet to point the other direction when there is no “global page,” so I might set one up to better track these pages. I have found the following:

Current USA subpages
All USA subpages planned for merging into standard pages has been completed.

Redirects to clean up
After the subpage is moved, we are leaving a redirect page from the original supbage. We are adding {{ReviewRedirects}} to the redirect page if it has current pages still linked to it. That template adds a link to the category that tracks pages that need the redirects reviewed. The italic pages listed on that category list are redirect pages. Those should be reviewed to update all the pages that link to it so those linked pages can get their links updated to point directly to the final page and not to the redirect page.

Note that the State Template pages may be shown in the list of pages linking to these redirects. The core template has been updated, but the individual state template pages will need to be “refreshed” (edit and save without changes or summary note) either manually or with a script to clear them from the lists. In cases where you see a subpage on the state template page, it is not part of the core template, so those pages will need to be updated manually to change the link.

Global Wazeopedia template
We also have pages that still carry the Global Wazeopedia template. These pages need to be reviewed and have the inappropriate global content removed followed by the template.

USA Regions
Pages like USA/USA/Southwest are more complex. They are part of the state template system and will take time to rebuild all templates involved. Currently they use the {{RC/CommonRegion}}.

Completed
I stopped tracking the completed pages since we have categories and templates to track what is still pending.

As for the road types and names page, the information on navigation instructions for unnamed segments is a template which is already in the road names/USA page. Road names redirects to road types and names, so I propose just removing the redirect from road names and then moving road names/USA to road names. I also propose removing the unnamed segment template from road types and names, since it is already on the page where it should be. That would leave road types and names as a sort of disambiguation and nothing more. I know that the info also pertains to road type, but it’s more related to naming, and it seems strange to have that one piece sitting on the page when all other guidance has been moved

Update: I moved Edits to avoid (USA) and its subpage Edits to avoid (USA)/Do not panic. I’m not sure whether Do not panic should still be accessible, however, since it is really just a soft redirect to Edits to avoid. I think it should just be made into a hard redirect. Any thoughts?

Related, what about the region page structure, such as, https://wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki/USA/USA/South_Central ?

Kent and I also fixed the formatting for the TIO article, and now it is at https://wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki/USA/Turn_instruction_override. I tried to move Editing rank USA, but Editing rank is a redirect for Your rank and points, so those will need to be merged

Good point. I had not included those in my OP, so I just updated it with:

USA Regions

I found and fixed Corrective Action/USA

I added a few and fixed a few.

A Table of Contents listing the USA subpages would be very useful.

My OP has the list of known pages. I keep adding to it as someone identifies it. What are you asking for that is not served by that list?

As and editor who is not a wiki master, I am hoping for a Table of Contents in the Wazeopedia itself. possibly on https://wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki/USA/Main_Page that lists and links to the subpages. Or even possibly on the Global Main Page.

As the Wazeopedia stands, there are many, possibly hundreds, of pages that most editors don’t know exist unless they happen across them being mentioned in a forum post or on another wiki page. Or even worse, having it pointed out as corrective action after making a royal editing mess.

I didn’t plan to create a wiki page with this data since we are managing it from this forum to track the progress and ensure we understand the desired outcome.

The USA subpage change we are discussing will not have an impact to the content on the page, so for editors who are not involved with Wiki editing, there is little reason to know about this list.

If I am still misunderstanding your desired outcome, please let me know.

Are you possibly asking about a table of contents for the ENTIRE Wiki and not just these USA subpages?

That would be nice, but even one for the USA subpages would be helpful.

The real point is in the last paragraph of my previous post:

Ah. I see the confusion. This thread is about the pages under the USA wiki that have a second USA subpage which previously separated them from the rest of the world. We are removing the USA subpage from the USA wiki because everything in the USA wiki is already specific to the USA.

As to your desire to have an index or table of contents, I am afraid that is not something that can be done. The nature of a Wiki is that it is a multidimensional array of documents with no single path through them other than alphabetical.

Our main page is https://wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki/USA/Main_Page

Under the USA wiki we have nearly 1,000 pages.

Here is a link to all the USA pages in alphabetical order: https://wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki/USA/Special:AllPages

Having said that, we do have sections of the Wiki which are set up like guides that you can read like a book. Maybe you are not familiar with some of them. I link them in my signature.

And here is the Editing Manual. https://wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki/USA/Editing_manual

I updated the OP to refresh the current status of the USA sub pages and remaining redirects.

I created a template {{ReviewRedirects}} to help track redirect pages we are creating so that we can eventually update these redirects. I know there are special pages that also show all redirects in the Wiki, but this way we can track the additional redirects we are creating as a result of this project.

I believe I am down to one page remaining.

I updated the OP to note the final remaining page is in discussion on another thread and won’t be managed from this thread for now.

I completed the final remaining USA subpage that we have currently planned to be relocated to a standard page. Please report any other pages I may have missed.

I am currently working on removing the global content and template from those marked pages.
