Permanent Roadworks

Upon checking my alerts this morning, I notice a bunch of permanent construction zone alerts up in Scotland. Can’t screen grab to show you but they should be on the livemap too.

Did we suddenly get someone picking this service up in the same way Italy do it? Anyone know anything?

This is the test phase of the permanent road construction reporting system
I hope, You like it;)
Ideas, error reports could be posted here.

This is brilliant as far as I’m concerned. Pretty much the only thing the TomTomHD traffic service has over waze now is long term work reports.

If this trial goes well and it can be rolled out across the country then I for one will be very happy.

Looks awesome. The council here publishes a list of roadworks and dates so should be easy to keep it up to date.

It’s sourcing from trafficscotland. Huge thanks to Peter for getting this up and running!

The Highways Agency publishes RSS feeds of Incidents, with geo co-ordinates. Includes road works, incidents and events, and would be a fabulous addition to Waze. All (or most) of the entries include dates/times too, so Waze could automatically expire them from the client.

Doing my best to get the HA on board with this (from within), haven’t been getting very far as yet. Hopefully, with TrafficScotland on board, I might get a bit further now

Hi partycat, here is the screen shot. It’s really nice to have this function. Looking for it

So, the description is now more detailed the start/end time is now correct.
Tomorrow evening I will start to implement the other traffic sources and the current traffic events.
If You find any problem, or have an idea, post it here.

You’re gonna be a popular guy, Peter!

Will waze route around closed roads or is it just for informational purposes?

Waze’s creating the routes trough the closures (yet), but it will warn You, when you start to navigate, that there are events on Your route.
The R&D is working on it, so it will be calculated in ETA later.

At the moment you’ll just get a warning if there are roadworks onona your route, the route and ETA are unaffected. Waze are working on deeper integration though.

I just spotted accidents and roadworks on the live map for England this morning - good job!

Loving the permanent display, hopefully that will be able to use it for routing.

The England part of the road reports is a “highly beta” version so if You find any problems on the roads, post it here, please!

It’s good to see these, although in my commute area (Southampton), they do seem to dominate over the live reports. This can be annoying when they are for time restricted roadworks, eg night closures, and therefore not relevant at that point in time. Is there any way to lower their priority in the cycle of pop-ups when you are stopped, so that live reports come up first?

Also, in the Hampshire area, there is the ROMANSE network (http://romanse.org.uk/) which carries more detailed data than the Highways Agency, covering the major routes and urban areas. I can’t see an obvious data feed on their website. They provide a good source of current data on jams, as well as roadworks, so if a data feed can be found, using it in the same way as the HA data would be a bonus.
