Red light Camera's

Is it just me, or is everyone getting annoyed by the constant deletion of red light camera’s in the State of Indiana? There needs to be a way to block anyone from creating a red light cam in the state, plus any other state that doesn’t alloy them by law.

Indiana Supreme Court has ruled that red light & speed cameras constitute entrapment and are unconstitutional. The only cameras allowed under state law are for toll booth areas only for purposes or non payment enforcement.

I think the real reason those get reported is that users are really reporting police radar - assuming it isn’t an outright mistake. At least with the camera reports there is a username associated with it so a nice PM to the reporter should help limit any future reports from that user anyways. I see these reported when local police have their portable radar units parked - even those can’t be used to issue tickets.
It is easy to delete these in Indiana, since they are not allowed by law. It is much more difficult to spot in Illinois - which does allow speed and red-light cameras. Unless they get reported on the interstate - which I see all the time.
No easy answer on this one, tho I’m sure we would all love to have one.

Yeah, I am going to have to start sending pms to the users that report. But, I have a feeling the majority of wazers that create cameras are not editor’s and just use the phone app. And yes, I am extremely glad Indiana doesn’t allow cameras. I can just delete on site with zero thought. Makes it much easier than states that do allow.

Being an R1, I’m hesitant to delete it with “zero thought”.

I should delete an Indiana speed light camera, right?

Should I also contact the person who created it? (Actually, I’m not sure how I’d do that.)

Here’s one that has just appeared near me:

I barely think anything about deleting speed/red light cameras in Indiana - since I know that they are not allowed. But, if you want to be diligent and try to contact the wazer, feel free, but I’ve found most (all?) have not registered. Maybe if waze at least had an indication of whether these kinds of things were reported by a registered user (not just rank) we could think more about it.

what would be really nice would be if Waze would block the creation of any cameras within the state of Indiana. It just creates extra work for editors.

Remove the button in the app as you cross the state line?

Keep in mind that reported cameras not approved do die a slow death. But deletion is still points - but you’re right - often just too much busywork.

Someone has added cameras to 116th St in Fishers. I’ve clicked on “Not there” for a few of them, but they are not disappearing. Can’t find them in the map editor either.

There’s a speed camera layer option. Check that and you should see them.
