Speed Camera Notifications

Hi,
I’m new to Waze and was hoping someone will be able to say how I can turn on an audio sound, maybe a beep when approaching a fixed speed camera. I cant see a setting anywhere.
Many thanks

You should hear an audio alert when approaching a speed camera at a speed which above the speed limit. I’m not sure, but I think this only works if you are a) have navigation on and b) a working data connection.

Is there a particular area you are driving in? Perhaps the speed cameras are not configured correctly there?

I believe it works when you are not navigating too, however I think there is a bug in the android version where the speed is not converted from mph to km/h so most of the time you only receive a visual warning. (assuming the speed on the camera is set correctly)

Oh yes, there’s this bug too. If you set your units to Km/h, you should get alerted at the correct speed.

Same bug in the iPhone version. There’s a reversible camera on my route home that’s currently pointing the other way set to 64kph. I’ve been past it at 64mph without an alert but every time I try to test it with my setting on metric there’s some idiot obeying the speed limit.

This may have been fixed. I recently read the speed camera wiki page and then tested it on the M25. The one camera I approached at over 70mph I got an audible warning, but the others were just visual. My distance units are set to miles and I’m using Android.

Hmmm I pass a 30mph camera quite a lot, if I approach from one way which is in a national speed limit, i get an alert, as I am travelling over 48mph, but never seem to get one any other way.

You also normally get the audible warning if no speed is set … as is the case on the M1 heading north from the M25 :-/

To be honest the whole speed camera system needs an overhaul but it’s not gonna happen in Waze v3.5 :frowning:

Just out of interest, what would you propose they do?

Remove the lot as it’s a failed system. Failing that, if several users click not there, actually remove the bloody thing. Set speed to average at first, have another button for too slow as well as not there. Make it all client and server side, not editor, although management still done in WME. Just a thought or 3…

This will actually happen now. When the sum rank of users who says it’s not there is greater than that of the editor who approved it, Waze will delete the camera. This feature has been broken until recently.

Just ran a test. Drove up to a camera set to 48kph at 35-40 mph, no warning with units set to miles. Drove up to same camera at 35 mph with with units set to KM and I got a warning.

Can’t believe they haven’t fixed this yet.

In the U.S., the editor says km/h, but the number you put in is actually MPH, and it works. I wonder if they think the UK uses the metric system.

There seems to be a bug where the client isn’t converting to the speed of the camera into the units of the phone. So, for a camera set with a speed of “48”, alerts occur at either 48 mph or 48 kph, depending on which units you select in the settings.

Confirmed on Android and iPhone.

Maybe we need to set all UK cameras to be in MPH, on the assumption that all users will be using ‘miles’?

That might be an idea, at least then people using KM will still get warnings - ok they will always get warnings, but that’s better than no warnings imo.

Hi,

Sometimes I doubt they do…

I’ll give this a test on Arnold rd as there are 8 sets of cams along the road.

Des. . .

For a long time, most of the cameras here were set to 56 km/h until I noticed they didn’t give any warning. When I started setting them to 35, it started working. You have to ignore the “km/h” on the editor.

Via my iPhone 3GS.

well I know the one near my house always goes off when I approach from a national speed limit road, so it goes off for me at above 48 mph or above.

So as it stands, assuming cameras have the correct speed set you would have to be doing about 112mph on a motorway for an audible alert. Most cameras on the motorway will go off at what about 80mph, so could easily get a ticket if relying on the alerts (not recommended)

I have received several alerts on several motorways previously, but then checking after shows they have no speed set.

+1 from me for setting them up in MPH, I believe most people will have that set over here.

Grrrrrr! Why are we never told these things and have to work them out ourselves?!
Is it worth changing them all or are waze going to fix it to break it if we did that?

Now that would be far too easy wouldn’t it.
