No offense, Waze, but please shut up for one 50 mile drive. I don’t turn on the radio to listen to Waze interupt the broadcast every 2 miles. California has very strict “hands-free” laws in place, so I count on my phone’s Bluetooth to transmit over the car stereo during phone calls. Unfortunately, Waze has taken to going “Ba-ding ding” constantly for things that I don’t care about, which causes the radio to go silent and the phone’s Bluetooth to work overtime. Can a future update give the user the ability to turn off all sounds individually, or even better… just turn off all Waze related sounds with a single button?
What sounds is it playing for? I can drive down the freeway for 100 miles and never hear a thing. What alerts are going up on the screen at the same time?
Yes, same here, sometimes forget it’s even on!
Speed trap, Police activity, heavy traffic, and of course the road goodies were killing me until I turned them completely off. Seriously, I just want a button that shuts the audio output off completely without disabling the visual indicators.
I understand your frustration, as it does appear that Waze ignores even the hardware switch on the iPhone for certain sounds. But it might useful, if you give details on which events your are reporting on.
Edit someone beat me to the question… used to be that the forum warned you that someone else posted since you started editing. Just another thing for the wiki ![]()
I’ll take a mental list starting now and see if I can give better details, instead of meandering complaints. 50 miles one way through Los Angeles tends to give me plenty of exposure to all of it, and I am well known by my IT department for having a talent for finding weird bugs that nobody else would ever stumble across… engaging Murphy’s Law mode in 3…2…1… Engaged.
I agree, but I would also like the option to turn off police, speed cams, etc off completely. I don’t speed, don’t run red lights, and don’t drive like an idiot in general so the alerts are not needed. Instead it pauses my podcasts that I am listening to, and blocks the screen for the next turn coming up.
Right now I just delete the police trap or red light camera so I hopefully won’t have to see it again.
Please do not do that for red light or speed cams. This will have the effect of removing it for everyone.
Do the alerts appear even after you disable the Speed cams and Police Traps layers in the app settings?
I toughed speedcams only had a sound alert if your driving too fast. So, if you never drive too fast it shouldn’t be a problem.
Redlight cams never have a sound alert I toughed. I never noticed a sound alert. Only a visible alert.
This is my experience too!
Tjey can trigger a sound alert, but the needed file is not in the current package. If you create a file yourself, and name it AlertRedLightCam.bin, it will behave the same as a speed cam, eg. Always a visible alert, and an audio alert when driving above the speed set in Cartouche.
Wow, if you’re going to remove things on the map because you can’t be arsed to listen to it, use something else instead of messing it up for everyone else.
Also, if you had read through the Wiki and Waze user instructions, you can mute ALL sounds by pressing in the bottom right in nav mode and selecting Mute.
Please don’t mess things up for everyone else!
Don’t drive like an idiot, and you don’t need them (don’t speed, and don’t run red lights).
I am a runner and bicyclist, getting nearly hit several times a day because no one wants to stop for a red light while they are speeding gets old.
Yes, they still appear. I have every alert turned off. I just use Waze for navigation. Still not sure if I like it better then Google Navigator.
