Cuckfield Fireworks Event
Start time 17:00 Sat 3rd Nov 2018
End time 21:00 Sat 3rd Nov 2018

Cuckfield - B2036, B2036 South St, B2036 High St

http://www.cuckfieldbonfire.co.uk/location/

Please note that severe congestion is expected throughout the village on the night. There will be a police road closure of the B2036 in effect from the Cuckfield Park A272 roundabout to the Lloyds chemist mini roundabout in South Street / High Street between 1700 – 2100. Traffic will be allowed access from the A272 for on-site bonfire parking only.

I tried to get a permalink with all of the segments listed together, but I kept getting a permissions type error message.
I have also created a draft event called “Cuckfield Fireworks” in Event Mode - but that can’t be submitted as there are no segments selected (because of permissions OR I’m not following the instructions as intended). I see messages like: “YOU NEED TO BE A LEVEL 3 EDITOR / WAZE PARTNER EDITOR TO ADD / EDIT A CLOSURE.”

Please could an admin affect this road closure. We want to keep the pedestrians at the event and our volunteer marshals as safe as possible. Thank you in advance, Fraser

I’m sure that the police presence, cones and congestion will do more to ensure the safety of the marshalls than entering a closure on Waze, but I’ve added the closure to the segments as requested.

As access to the car park is via the A272/B2036 roundabout, I’ve not add a closure to your first listed segment. This will ensure that users requesting a route to RH17 5AH will be routed correctly via the A272 and B2036 to Cuckfield Park, which seems to be the centrepoint of the postcode area, rather than via Broad St or High St. Unfortunately, it’s too late to split the segment and add the drive into Cuckfield Park as we’d have to wait for the map to updated (probably on Saturday or Sunday morning) to be able to add the closure of the B2036 between Cuckfield Park and Church Platt.

I’m very surprised that you couldn’t generate the permalink for one or more of the segments you listed as selection of a segment is not lock-limited, only editing. Did you select the segment(s) in the editing map, then click on the chain symbol at the bottom right of the screen? That should reload the map with the segments still selected and the url in the hyperlink at the top of the screen is the permalink which you can copy and paste.

I think you have to be a level 3 editor to create an Event - you certainly have to be an Area Manager (L3) before you can create closures in the area you manage.

Hope this all helps and that the event goes well on Saturday.

Thanks you Woodvale. This is much appreciated. It is RH17 5AB (rather than 5AH) but that doesn’t change the point you make. Thats a great outcome, thank you.

Just for clarity - I could select a single segment e.g. https://www.waze.com/editor?env=row&lon=-0.14176&lat=51.00502&s=3509525&zoom=5&segments=121521504 but it might have been user error - that I took from the posting guidelines I should have been able to select multiple segments at the same time.

Even with the police, diversion signs, cones etc… we do get a number of drivers being hostile to the marshal, driving irresponsibly - so to have their Google Maps and Waze point them in the right direction this will better help things calmer and safer on the ground. Thanks again.

Finger trouble at my end, I think.

I will point out, however, that Waze is not particularly useful with postcodes, because of the way postcode locations are defined. This particularly affects rural areas where a postcode may cover a wide number of properties. In a town, a postcode will be largely limited to a single street or one side of a street. In a rural area, where properties are more spread out, a postcode may cover a wider area which includes several different (sometimes unnamed) roads. The defined location of a postcode area is, I understand, the GPS coordinates of the centre of the shape covering all the properties with that postcode.

Waze doesn’t maintain its own postcode database but forwards searches for postcodes to Google Maps, which returns the GPS coordinates of the geographic centre of the postcode area. Waze then looks for the segment closest to those GPS coordinates and routes you there.

For the future, you might like to consider adding place markers from the app for the car parks or other useful locations which users could be directed to search for, instead of a postcode.
