As far as I know the NSW Government needs to pass legislation before they can enforce average speed zones on cars.
They have made great headlines this weekend. However the trial still needs a lot of stuff other than just media releases.
I can confirm the sections of road in NSW with average cameras will soon be legislated to go live for a trial period for light vehicles. The governments media release is here: [url: “https://www.nsw.gov.au/media-releases/safety-focus-trial-of-average-speed-cameras#:~:text=“NSW%20is%20the%20only%20jurisdiction,road%20more%20of%20the%20time.”]
I reckon it will take little more than a few changes of settings for the cameras to issue tickets. Cameras, automatic number plate recognition and operational software are all in place. All they have to do to implement is remove the filter that exempts light vehicles. The rhetoric, urgency and weight of opinion seems to indicate they mean business with their trial.
I agree, and this is great to know. Thanks! We will map them in NSW when they’re actually in-effect and issuing fines. ![]()
