Palomares is under mandatory evacuations and you have no one updating the status
You as sending commuters through Palomares. Almost had two head on collisions because of people driving on the wrong side of the road.
I would like all of Palomares from Niles Canyon to Palo Verde. But we live at the half way point and mainly travel north. You weren’t even updating Niles Canyon even though it was totally closed.
Thank you for letting us know. Unfortunately, there are too many closures and too few volunteers to keep track of all the short term and long term closures in the recent storms.
I’ve put a closure on Palomares through next Friday, Jan 20, in anticipation of the upcoming storm this weekend.
By the way, CalTrans announced that Niles Canyon opened earlier today.
If you couldn’t tell, I was volunteering, like I did seven years ago. Now we know why you have “too few volunteers” to keep things accurate. We have a lot of deaths on Palomares, we’re the Zeroth Responders. You keep sending people through a canyon that has mandatory evacuations! They drive their pretty teslas around the signs that ACPWA and CHP put up saying the road is closed. The road hasn’t been fixed since New Years Eve. There is no fuel delivery, no garbage pick up, even FedEx won’t deliver, and the county says they won’t respond to any emergencies. Here comes the next storm. You really think it will be fixed in the next week? You don’t drive it multiple times a day in your 4WD, reporting to our local blogs what is happening where. You don’t even read our blog updated by 50 families. You must be a knowledge worker with your half million useless edits…
There are two issues you as an individual face at the moment. The first is a technical issue that restricts level 1 editors. We don’t know when it will be fixed, but we have some work arounds that can get a new editor going.
The second issue is you have a total of 28 edits from 7 years ago. Setting closures is limited to level 3 editors and above. If you want to work your way to this point, let us know and we will work to get you started toward the experience required to access the tools.
If you want to help out in something closer to real time, you’re welcome to join us on our Discord server. That’s also where we will end up working with you on the above. Your local experience will be valuable in helping others, so I hope to see you there.
Actually there is only one issue, which was the problem seven years ago and you did not state nor understand.
Whether I’m level 1 or level 2 or level 3, I can’t edit something that I have not traveled on. Since we don’t have cell phone coverage in the canyon, the higher level editors figured out seven years ago that they would have to give me a territory (the road I live on and the private driveways that connect to the road) so that I could edit it. They had never done that before and it broke their rules so badly that they decided not to try.
So after 28 edits I decided not to do anymore useless edits (disconnected driveways or one way aisles in the parking lots of local shopping centers) or useful edits to our road (correct the address problems) especially when the editor won’t let me edit even level 1 offroad trails because there is no cellphone coverage.
Waze won’t let me edit because of cellphone coverage. Waze is a cellphone based app. Waze sends commuters into a mandatory evacuation zone where the county/state won’t respond to emergencies, where the commuters can’t get help because they don’t have cellphone coverage, and where there is no response. Waze should only route people to places where their is cellphone coverage and the status of the roads can be updated.
I wish I could have gotten to the editing questions like how you add multiple address to a unnamed private road/driveway (sometimes gated) that has multiple homes when the address is tied to a public road. Why do you need to have level 3 to close a road when a level 2 could do it by putting in correct one way restrictions or disconnecting segments?
I’d like to volunteer because your bad data has been inconveniencing our community since Waze was created and the commuters that you send through our canyon expect us to help them when they get in trouble (we have Garmin satellite based communication). I’m not going to waste my life on editing parking lots (which there are no more parking lots to edit).
We actually have a way to make this possible, but you have to be connected to the local editing community to make it happen. That would be our Discord server.
Restrictions and disconnecting segments is not the right way to do this. Those take a minimum of a day, and sometimes longer, to make it to the map. Level 3 editors and above have the ability to add a Real Time Closure that takes effect immediately and can be removed without delay as well.
You are welcome to join us on Discord and we will help you out any way that we can.
