Waze not showing Construction and road closures in my Area

I live in Umbilo Durban South Africa and there is a lot of construction work going on in our area, with the laying of new Electricity cables. I have entered the obstructions and the change of road directions into waze. Yet Waze does not show these changes or hazards or take them into account in my routing and continues to insist that I am routed down roads that I know are closed and have previously marked as closed or are now one way for the duration of construction period. I know of other users who have made changes for the same area yet there is no information on the map.

I would appreciate some feed back on this as waze has the potential to be a very useful app for motorists wanting to avoid road issues.

Some guidance on this would be appreciated.

Temporary road closures entered in the app need a few users reporting them to become live. They won’t show as closed in the app as they affect routing only. To get the road closure signs to go live needs the closures to be manually entered in the map editor window, by level 4 (and above) editors.

The quickest way to get road closures implemented is to publish them on Slack in the South Africa channel. Install and sign up here http://bit.ly/SlackInviteInt. You’ll find the vast majority of South African editors are on Slack and only too happy to help you.

Kind Regards,

Oh and welcome to the forums

Hi Durban Guy,

As Ian said the quickest way you’ll get a response is on Slack. If you’re not keen to do that though you can post about the closures on these forums and I (or other editors) will add them once we pick them up.

Glad to have some more Wazers in Durbs.

Kyle

Thank you for your responce I was concerned my questions were being ignored or I had posed to the wrong list.
There are so many closures in the Umbilo Glenwood area the best solution would be to do this process via a map. Some cases the closures are just for a few hours or a day or two as the contractors make progress.
I will investigate slack other wise I will type up a list as I know them here of the road closures and submit them.

Regards

Godfrey

Good Day
I need some guidance here.

Is there a small howto or guide or a you tube video on how to make changes and save them so they can be peer reviewed. I tried but found the process difficult and frustrating.

In the meantime can we list the following roads

Umbilo
Oliverlea from Sarnia Road to Bottomlea Closed or Residents only.
Bartle Road From Oliverlea to Prospect Oneway to Prospect Road Residents only or closed for long periods of time two of more hours per day.
Bottomlea Entrance to Bartle Road frequently closed

Sphiwe Zuma from Traffic circle to Dean Road Limited Access From Dean Road up to Fielden Drive is closed From Fielden Drive to Rick Turner limited access.

All Up traffic is being diverted at Dean Road.

ZK Matthews Road From Dan Pienaar road crossing over Rick Turner Left hand lane of the side of the road facing towards Durban Central is reduced to one lane for most of the way.

No ETA on completion. Forman says is not sure. Two or more months ?

Is there a way to for you to access my Waze profile and see what closures I have made to the map. It seems a bit pointless with so few users in the Durban area actually making edits to wait for a whole bunch of people to make the same changes before they accepted. Perhaps accredit certain users to make changes with out waiting some one else to come along. Till more users come on board.

What about cases where the M7 is blocked for a few hours due to a MVA. I would prefer to know to avoid then to drive into a long queue and sit and wait for an hour or two for it to clear. Same goes for public disturbances on South Coast Road and Cato Manor and other roads

In the mean time can you enter the suggested edits and as I find more I will post them here or till some other solution is worked out like I have worked out how to edit the map in my browser.

Regards

Godfey

Hi Godfrey,

Thanks for the detailed responses of road closures required. Things to know:

Limited access - this can be achieved with road restrictions, most you will be able to input yourself on local roads. If you need assistance, hit one of us up on Slack (with a permalink) and we’ll be happy to help you click the right buttons!

Residents only - currently no option for this in waze, it’s either open to all or none

Lane reductions - currently no option for this in waze, either all lanes are open or the road is closed.

Frequently closed - we really need dates and times for closures to be effective in waze, since both can be activated and affect routing for users.

M7 closures - temporary in nature and difficult to implement, especially since we’ve no idea when they might clear. (The UK has something similar which is set up so that closures happen automatically).

Public disturbances - If they are planned we can implement road closures in the normal manner. If they are unplanned we are at the mercy of the demonstrators.

After a couple of days I can see what edits you’ve made to the map via your user profile, but this is dependant on the waze servers updating the page.

I’ll add what closures I can based on your information.

Thanks again,
Ian
