Average MPH

Where can I see my average MPH?

I am not aware of any way to see your average MPH for previous drives. There is an option in the Waze Application to show a real time speedometer on the display though.

Yeah I look at that. I was just wondering if it averages like on the other’s icon. Or is that average just for their current trip?

I wouldn’t pay too much attention to that figure! I don’t think I’ve ever seen it higher than 40mph - it’s likely very innacurate!

thank you

If you click on another Wazer’s icon - the speed displayed is supposedly their ‘current’ speed. But the refresh of this information is delayed and there have been reports of it being incorrect. It’s of my opinion that this information is not of any value and should be removed to avoid confusion.

I believe the original thinking on this feature is that if you were going to ping someone you could see that they were moving quickly and not disturb them. But since the refresh is delayed and someones speed can change in a moment, the data is not useful.

I’m fairly certain it only shows ‘current’ speed in increments of 5 Mph/8 Km/h in the 10 to 40 mph range. Anything below 10 and it shows ‘less than 10 mph’ and above 40 it shows ‘over 40 mph’ and in between ‘around xx mph’ in 5 mph increments.

You can look at an archived route and click on “segments” of the route and it’ll tell you your entry time, exit time, and average speed for that segment.

Shows you how many times I have needed that data!

Understood.

But what is the value to the Waze experience in showing the speed other Wazers are supposedly travelling at all? It’s delayed and in a limited range. You can’t use the date to predict traffic since you don’t know for sure what road the Wazer is even on, when they were in that stop, whether they are stopped changing a flat, etc.

I think it’s more of a “we have this data, and it’s trivial to make it visible, so why not” and then decided to coarsen it up and put a band-limit on it. I think the same thing happened for speed-cams getting morphed into being red light cameras, which also add no value IMO, when their speed is set to 0.

It’s like walking into McDonalds and seeing on the menu:

Big Mac < $20
French Fries > $.01

The data is not timely, no good so why display it? I it just causing confusions and undermining the faith in the Waze experience.

I disagree that inaccurate data is better than not displaying it at all.

How is it not timely? It’s their “actual” speed +/- 5mph from no more than 2 minutes ago, which is far more timely than the traffic-jam speed squares. I would agree that the value is limited because you have to go out of your way to tap a wazer and zoom in far enough to see where they actually are vs just looking at the screen for yellow/red lines.

So you believe it is a useful feature to click on Wazers, to see their estimate speed from 2 minutes ago, to find out if there might be traffic, to make a routing decision? Really?

And what value is over 40mph? If I am on a freeway with a speed limit of 65 mph or 70 mph with average traffic flowing 75 mph or 80 mph, 40 mph + is useless information.

And that is assuming that it’s even the speed of the Wazer you clicked on, and not another Wazers speed - just like the points and rank don’t seem to align properly…
