Displayed Speed for Wazers

I noticed that the speed displayed for all of the wazers is “less than 10 mph”. I sometimes use that feature to tell me if/how traffic is moving before I set off on a drive. Is this something from the last update that needs to be fixed?

You should not depend on that data for making routing decisions. It’s delayed and may not be accurate.

Is this less than 10 mph a function of “speedometer” not being turned on?

I’ve noticed this too - everyone appears to have a speed “less than 10mph”. I think it’s a bug.

Hardly makes a difference round here…

I don’t depend on it… it’s just another thing I look at on Waze. I figured if the tool is there, why not view it? I only mentioned it really because I figured it might be a bug that no one had pointed out yet that needed to be fixed.

I think if they set their settings to be anonymous or not to be pinged it will say less than 10 miles an hour. It will never show you an exact speed, and will not show any speeds above 40 or 45 miles an hour, you will never see an exact highway speed using that method. It is meant to show if it is safe to ping that user or not. (If they are driving slow it is safer than if they are driving fast).

The stats when you click on a Wazer’s icon are know not to be correct. Speed, points, etc. Waze has tried to fix the points issue in the past but it’s still not right. You can’t rely on that data.

I’ve noticed this too. All Waze user icons appear to display speed as “less than 10 mph”. Looks like a bug to me. Would be useful information if it worked, but the info should not be reported if it’s inaccurate or if it is always less than 10 mph.

It’s a bug since the last 3.2 release.

I pointed it out to waze a while back, so they are aware.

The speed shows less than 10mph regardless of whether they’re anonymous or not. For example, my husband sometimes has me check Waze to see approximately where he’s at and how traffic is doing so I’m ready to go out around the time he gets home.

I think I’ve seen higher speeds displayed in the Livemap, so it’s probably a client bug.

You can see speeds over 40 km/h also in client, but only for wazers with version <3.1.99.x. It’s a bug how client version >=3.1.99.x reports speed to the server.

Wow. Interesting. I wonder where else in the waze system the erroneous speed reports are used.
