Bangor-on-Dee, Wrexham - potential change of 'city' name?

Advice and opinion sought on this one, please.

The village of Bangor-is-y-Coed, in the county of Wrexham, N Wales…

The current name is the Welsh one, which is technically correct - but it’s more commonly known as Bangor-on-Dee. This is how it’s usually referred to locally, and it’s also the official postal address for the village. Beyond the local area, it’s most widely known as being the home of Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse.

So how complex or otherwise would it be to change the name to the English version? Would it be better to change it, or leave it alone?

At the very least, could the hyphenation and capitalisation be corrected? It’s “Bangor-is-y-Coed”, not “Bangor is Y Coed” (translates from Welsh as ‘Bangor underneath the trees’, if you’re interested!).

And just like that it is done :wink:

City names can be edited by L5 Country Managers, this means we don’t have to manually change every segment. We have a list of tools based on editor rank on the Wazeo;

Marvellous. Thanks!

I knew city name creation was a L5+ procedure - but I wasn’t sure whether editing an existing name was an easy fix, or whether it would’ve involved a lot of faffing about at segment level to make the changes (although that wouldn’t have been too onerous in this small village).

Glad it was an easy one!

City name creation can actually be done by L4 editors (something to aim for :sunglasses: ) but the magic wand of changing all segments and removing the traces of the old name is L5
