Consensus - City Naming "Title"

Hi all

Generally Waze works on consensus by country on road rules and standards.

When I first start with waze a few years ago the city field was in this format quite a lot

Mosgiel, Dunedin, Otago

The NZ wiki says

City and County Naming

So in the example above we would use

Mosgiel

and if these is another Mosgiel we would use

Mosgiel (Dunedin)

Thoughts

In my mind Waze HQ is going to drop suburbs soon, so if it were me I would drop suburbs all together

Makes no different to searchs

Might as well just keep the current system right now (since it seems to be working?) until Waze HQ implements suburbs and then we can start doing all the major changes involving Cities and Towns and Suburbs and whatnot.

That’s the problem. From the best I can tell the “city field” is doing very little except map clutter nationwide and hence. (seams to work ok in Auckland and Wellington but the provinces are a mess)

e.g. look at this thread as an example

Why is “Ivanhoe” showing but not “Sydney”

The problem also is that Waze staff are not very forthcoming with information when asked for. It seems to be a secret when we need to clarify which way they want us to map things out for them.

I’m not entirely convinced they will drop the suburb names altogether ispyisail as the information we were provided in those spreadsheets to us are too detailed. In New Zealand it shouldn’t make that much of a difference if they dropped suburbs, but in Australia it would cause a mess as in some cities we have 2 or more streets with the same name.
I would agree with darquel that we wait until Waze completes this project and we see what we have to change (if anything). Remember this will most likely be a worldwide change if its a system update, so every country has to be taken into account.
