South Central Region (SCR) Discord Server
We have created a channel on the South Central Region’s Discord server just for Mississippi. This is where you can go to interact and chat with fellow editors along with your Area and State Managers. It will give you good insight into the best practices and policies in regard to map editing plus give an easy, convenient way for editors to stay in touch, ask questions (any questions, we all started at Rank #1 at some point), request downlocks or review of your work and get Peer-to-Peer Mentoring.

New map editors in Mississippi should:
- Join the SCR regional Discord server linked above and introduce yourself in the #mississippi channel.
- Start out by reading and learning how to use the WME (Waze map editor) by reading the USA Wazeopedia.
- Take a look at our Waze Academy Courses, which will help you learn how to edit the map from basic courses to advanced.
- When ready, begin by checking out your local neighborhood and city/town in WME and making, or suggesting, any needed edits. At first, your editable area (EA) will be limited to a one mile radius of drives you made while using Waze.
- Help us make the Mississippi Waze experience the best it can be by alerting higher ranked editors to road closures in your local area. Local knowledge, what we call boots on the ground (BOTG), helps us keep the map accurate.

Special Roads in Mississippi
Dirt Roads
Roads in Mississippi that are dirt or gravel should be classified as such in the editor. This is to maintain proper function of the “Avoid Dirt Roads” feature in the Waze app. This includes roads that are classified by the MDOT as Urban or Rural Collectors.
Roads across farm fields, tree farms, dirt roads across private property also should not be mapped.
Driveways / Private Roads
DO NOT map driveways to single residences UNLESS there is a potential for a routing issue, ie., a user may be routed onto an adjacent street or is a very long drive that may make it difficult for Waze to determine a start point navigating from that address. Driveways left over from the original base map import that do not meet that criteria should be deleted.
Private roads serving multiple residences should be mapped, but is not a high priority over other editing tasks. If they are there from the base map, they may be left in place.
There are some counties that name or number private drives off of county/state maintained roads. These should be left in place and set to private road type.
