Mapping a narrow bridge
A narrow bridge permanent hazard identifies bridges where opposing traffic must share a single lane and give way to oncoming vehicles.
This applies where all of the following are present:
- The bridge carries two-way traffic using a single shared lane
- Vehicles travelling in opposite directions need to give way or wait for oncoming traffic to clear before crossing.
This does not apply to:
- Bridges with separate lanes for each direction of travel, even if physically narrow
- Bridges on one-way roads
- Pedestrian-only bridges or shared-use paths
The presence of “Narrow Bridge” or similar road signage does not, by itself, determine eligibility for mapping. Signage may be present on both qualifying and non-qualifying bridges.
As with all permanent hazards, narrow bridges must only be mapped on public roads.
