Prior to the Waze 3.6 update on my iPhone 5, I was receiving sound alerts for police sightings or road hazzards. After the update, I no longer receive those sounds yet I do see the pop up box. I do have my route guidance on mute, but before the update I also had my route guidance on mute before the update and still received the sound alerts.
Am I missing something here?
The Mute button at the top of the main menu mutes all sounds now as of v3.6. To mute only Nav, you must unmute the main menu setting, and the Navigational Guidance to none under Settings/Sound.

Please add a new mute button for ONLY alerts and ONLY directions?
Every morning I let WAZE route me to my destination as I have a choice of multiple highways to choose from. I can clearly see when I head out what path to take. I don’t want to listen to turn by turn guidance for a route that I drive every morning, but I do want to hear the alerts.
Furthermore, I don’t want to disable ALL navigation guidance, because on the occasion I do need turn by turn, I don’t want to be digging through the main system options to renable guidance.
It’s on the development list for a quick way to do this. Something like a trinary mute button.
