Question to L4 editors and above - new Waze Feature Lane Width

Good Evening Editors,

I have noticed this evening that there is a new feature on the Lane tab giving the ability to be able to set road widths,

I have had a look at the WIKI and know that best practices are not to use the “narrow” road option when setting roads, but not seen if we are now supposed / advised to set lane widths on roads with width restrictions under the best practices?

Unfortunately, it’s nothing to do with setting width restrictions on narrow roads. It’s to do with improving GPS accuracy on closely aligned segments

You’re correct that we should not be using narrow roads, roads with width restrictions should be mapped as normal roads, perhaps with a map comment to bring to the attention of other editors should any URs get raised there.

Waze is so much more complicated now than when I started. When you select a segment, in order to understand how it routes and appears in the app you may need to consider:

  • road type
  • segment name
  • junction angles
  • TIOs
  • segment restrictions
  • turn restrictions
  • lane guidance
  • no. of lanes
  • lane widths
  • visual instructions
  • appearance in app vs. Android Auto vs. CarPlay
    and how all those interact with each other.
