Filter & Duplicate Past Events & Closures

Managing repeating traffic events or setting up complex closures from scratch every time can be time-consuming. In the Waze Map Editor (WME), you can search, filter, and duplicate any past, current, or future traffic event created within the last two years. Duplicating an event copies its mapped location, attributes, and linked closures, shifting closure schedules automatically to match your new timeframe.

Filter & search traffic events

Use search filters in the WME to find specific events by name, location, category, or status.

Apply search filters

1. Log in to the Waze Map Editor

2. Click Events. The left side panel will open.

3. Click . The “Events filter” panel will open.

4. Set your search criteria using any of the available parameters:

   • Location: Search within the visible Map area, or select a Specific location by specifying a country (required), state, and city

   • Has the words: Enter keywords from the event name

   • Traffic impact timeframe: Choose predefined options like Anytime, Last 7 days, or Next 30 days, or select Between to set a custom date range up to 2 years back

   • Category: Filter by All categories or select a Specific category

   • Created by me: Check this box to display only events you created

5. Click Apply to run the search

Note: Search results show up to 30 events at a time, sorted by start date with the newest events at the top. If more than 30 events match your search, click the page buttons at the top of the list to see the rest.

Step 1: Duplicate an event

Duplicating an event creates a brand-new event with the original event details. You retain full freedom to edit all fields, modify polygons, and adjust dates.

Duplicate the traffic event

1. Filter traffic events to locate the relevant event

2. Click on the relevant event

3. Click Duplicate

4. Select “Include road closures” if you want to copy all associated closures along with the event

5. Update required fields:

   • Event category

   • Start and End of traffic
     Note: Duplicating clears the original dates while retaining the daily start and end times

   • Event name

   • Event description

   • Translations (for the event name)

6. Under the “Lock” section, check lock level requirements for your region and adjust the level if needed

7. Click Save, in the top-right corner

Manage duplicated closures

If you checked “Include road closures” during Step 1, Waze copies the associated closures and attaches them to your new event. Before these closures can go live, you must review, update, and verify them in WME.

Step 2: Review & verify closures

1. Open your newly duplicated event

2. Click the Road Closures tab

3. Click Verified and select “Unverified” from the dropdown menu to view unconfirmed closures

4. Click an unverified closure card to review its details

   • Tip: Click Locate on the card to inspect the segment on the map

5. Verify and update closure details. Learn more about adding and managing closures.

6. Click Verify on the closure card. A popup window will appear.

7. Click OK. The closure moves from the “Unverified” list to “Verified”.

8. Repeat for each remaining closure card

Bulk verification: If all closure details are accurate without individual edits, you can click Verify all to confirm all closures at once.

Resolve failed closure duplications

If underlying road segments were deleted, merged, or split since the original event took place, Waze cannot copy those specific closures and place them in a Failed list.

Fix failed closures

1. In the Road Closures tab, click Unverified and select “Failed” from the dropdown menu

2. Click a failed closure card to inspect the error message

   • If a segment no longer exists, the card displays “This segment does not exist anymore” along with a crosshair link pointing to the original map location

3. Locate the new or updated segment on the map

4. Update the segment reference, direction, and closure schedule

5. Click Verify on the closure card. A popup window will appear.

6. Click OK. The closure will move from the failed list

Got questions?

Does duplicating an event alter or delete the original event?

No. The original event, its mapped area, and its associated closures remain completely unchanged when you create a duplicate.

Why didn’t the lock level copy over when I duplicate an event?

Duplicating events created before January 2025 does not automatically copy lock levels due to database updates. You must manually set the lock level according to your country’s editing guidelines.
