Vignette forum - welcome on board

Hello Everybody,

We are very happy to announce this new forum :stuck_out_tongue:
This forum goal is to be a platform for creating an open discussion about Vignette: mapping, process, Q&A, and updates that are relevant to it.

After we had a long conversation around the launch date - the NEW official date will be
October 21st 2018.
Hope you are excited about it at least as we are

We will be in touch very soon!
Hadas, Ruben and Hezi

Really quiet here in this new room…
Have all things been said, or will the discussion just start  ?
Oct 21 is approaching steadily… are any (offline) discussions already going on?
Or is the beta/localisation meeting the place and moment to present options, ideas, visions and discuss?

Ruben posted this 3 days ago: https://www.waze.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1938&t=265681
As for Hezi he’s OOO until September 14th and then will be at a meetup in Germany, so things will probably move more once he’s back.

Hey All,

Hope everyone is doing great and you are excited for the upcoming rollout.

We are one week away from the release and we want to make sure everyone is on the same page.

Upcoming Schedule:

October 20 - We will add the Vignette passes in WME
October 21 - Communities will map the vignette throughout Europe (make sure to finish till Sunday evening in order to be in the following tile build)
Same evening passes will be added to the client will be added.
October 22 - Tile Build and followup

We received your feedback about the implementation logic to route all the users trough the ‘Vignette freeways’ as if they had the permit by default.
After checking with the team and Moriah, we believe and have decided that the right way will be for users to actively add the Vignette to their account.

To make sure all users are aware of it we will support the release with different ways of user communication.
We will have a pre release push notification, encouragement popup and take overs.

We will try to send you some examples in the upcoming days. Of course you are more than welcome to use your managed social channels to update the drivers in your countries.

In case you have any doubt or question please let us know.

Thanks,
Ruben & Hezi

You didn’t explicetly write when the toll passes are activated in the app. This is important, because if not, routing will break as it did the last 2 times.
Please activate all toll passes as soon as you start information in the app.

FYI

today all affected countries’ (Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Romania, Hungary)

global champs discussed and agreed on that we will map the vignette system in the TOLL FREE WAY. The way HUNGARY already implemented the county system.

If every things go fine, and all the users use the vignette system, it’s properly advertised and marketed throughout Waze channels, pop ups, etc,

we can change the system to the “restriction type” (#2).

But not now.
So schedule is great just don’t forget to add the vignettes in the app

Thank you for the heads up, we added in the main post.
We will add the passes on Sunday 21st evening, so that once the user will receive the push he will be able to add it in the client and ready to drive with it the following day.

Is this going to happened as it is planned?

It’s probably a bit late to speak of this now, but I think it would have been nice to add the selection of the vignette in the App earlier than the WME mapping.

We know that if we map before the vignette is selectable = very bad, breaks routing etc…
But allowing people to select the vignette before it’s mapped = no difference for routing, they only “get ready” for the tile update in advance, not at the last minute.

We could have started to send messages on social media: Waze will support the vignette next week, all you have to do is add it on your Waze App to be ready for when the map will update
But this sounds like it will be like: The map is about to update and forbid you to use freeways, routing will break if you don’t have the vignette selected by tomorrow. It seems way more rushed and less smooth, people might be angry that we didn’t warn in advance and didn’t allow them to prepare earlier than the very last 48h.

Aslo it would not have prevented a push message in the last few hours to make sure the ones who missed all other Twitter/Facebook/other media announcements add it before the tiles update.

N.B. - Also having the tile build on a Monday when people go to work can be a source of stress if people missed the change and that there are any issues, if all that was done on a Sunday we’d impact users for less important commutes since most of them don’t work.

Hey all,

Hope you are doing well

We got updated about the conversation you had at the Betalization meetup regarding the mapping of the Vignette, and that you have decided to change the way you want to edit the permits into the map.
As we understood it, major part of has to do with the concerns you have for the success of the feature and the way it will affect our users experience with routing around toll roads.

We have checked the option to map it the way you decided, with a Toll Free restriction, simulated it and find out it can not work, meaning this way of mapping do not make the feature the way it was intended, when this feature was asked to be added by you.

At the beginning we were talking about two options of mapping. But the double check showed us there is only one way, and it is by using the ALLOWED restriction.

In order to help all of us to understand the logic behind it, and to be on the same page we have created a short presentation.

Therefore, we have decided to delay the launch in a week to October 29th, so from our side as a community we will do it the best way possible.

We do understand your concerns, but we want you to be aligned with us regarding the way the map should be edited in that matter, believe in us, and know that we have to take risks if we want to move forward and make Waze better.
We have a whole plan of user communication around it, as we posted earlier this week.

Furthermore, as it was suggested by you, we are checking the option to add the permits to the client before editing it, so we will be able to have at least some of the users ready before the launch itself.

Thanks for your time and effort!

Thank you Hezi for the presentation, now it makes sense also for me (us). Now i can understand your decision and why it is important to map it “allow for” way.
I think none of us thinks of it like this, and if you would say the reason right away, we would not argue anything IMHO.

Thanks again for the clarification.

One more question, is it really needed to postpone implementation for one more week? We as editors do not have problems to map that way so it is not an issue for us.

Hey,

We are happy to hear things are clearer now, and we hope it will be clear for everyone. Please spread the word within your communities, to make sure we are all aligned.

This is also the reason we have decided to delay the launch, so we will be able to have a buffer of time to get everyone on the same page so no mistakes will happen when editing, and no routing problems will happen when launching.

Furthermore, as Vince1612 suggested, we will use this time wisely, we will add the passes to the client on Monday October 22nd , and let users the option of adding the passes before launching (a whole week before) - we will post about it separately

We know the way it was mapped in Hungary, but it will change as well. because Vignette is well spread around your countries, there is low amount of drivers who might get the wrong navigation, and this is why we haven’t heard about it. Yet, now that we know this is wrong way of mapping we can not risk it even for one user, and that’s why we should use the ALLOWED restriction.

Best,

I believe we should also consider Countries surrounding Vignette Countries, or better … the users of these Countries accrossing Borders.

When vignette system will be defenetly lauched we 'll need Waze/google to informe “capillary” all Foreign waze users approaching Country Borders about the new Toll System.

I went to Austria to test Vignette in the days it has been disabled: no problem because I was aware of the situation and I could have switched from one toll system to another (adding Vignette in cliente ) but normal users must be very very well informed in advance .

cool, however there is one thing to be aware of. In older waze versions (i tried 4.18 only) there is no option to set these passes. On Monday will it be possible to set it? I remember few months ago, that the menu setting was there when i faked GPS to France or Italy also on older versions, but i tried it yesterday and not France nor Italy put it to my menu.

Hopefully users will not be pushed to upgrade waze, some of them may be using it on older phones so older versions are not so battery and cpu hungry. I am not talking about ancient 3.x or windows phone versions (yes, there are still people who chose to suffer that way), but at least 4.x should work IMHO.

Version 4.4.00 vignette Austria and Slovakia still availables

ok, so hopefully only some problem with fake gps position in my case, so waze did not know correctly where it is.

The passes will not be available from 4.25 and previous versions, but we checked and users with 4.25 and lower is around 1%. The version is more than 1 year old, and we will update that users that will need to upgrade to add passes.

Thanks for info.
But there is another question:
With ALLOW ONLY VIGNETTE If user has AVOID TOLL ON, and no VIGNETTE Pass,
what happens if he chooses location BEHIND/INSIDE vignette road? Does he get a warning? Will he get a suggestion to add vignette?

Hey All,

Following your feedback, we want that our users will have enough time to be aware of the feature and add the passes before the launch.
This time will also allow us to improve the feature and make sure to avoid a bad experience to the users.

To sum up the new timeline and process you can check the amazing presentation Hezi prepared.

If you have any doubt please let us know!

Thank you,
Ruben & Hezi
